Hmm, just left the Scrambler running for 15 minutes with the Rexxer reflash ECU to reset. Afterwards I noticed that the pickup is much better but it does crack/ pop a lot when you close the throttle. Wasn't able to go for a ride due to poor weather and will try to do a proper run later this week, but if anyone has advice I'd love to hear it.

I disabled the O2 sensors and put in a BMC filter at the same time, could a not prpoerly closed up air filter housing cause the popping?

Unless the aftermarket exhaust is 'tuned' with a proper reflector chamber that assists in evacuating exhaust, you're wasting your time on an aftermarket exhaust IMO. Make sure you buy it with proven dyno charts or buy it on a guarantee that the dyno will show an increase.

I've spent way too much money on aftermarket exhausts to believe in them anymore.

Modern bike makers have access to computerized flow modelling and design software that makes this a cinch for them.

Reflector chamber??

Nonsense, we are not talking about 2-stokes here. It's just a slip on.

Make sure there are no leaks in the system, intake or exhaust.

Yeah, next time I put a car muffler on my bike...

I'm looking at the third option. Can't find any additional info online about how this "User" unit actually interfaces with the bike.

Do you need a laptop or specific program to do this?

I will eventually be changing the exhaust and air filter and plan on remapping. I don't plan on this for another 6 months though.

The main reason I want this unit is to reset service indicators. I had my first service performed at Ducshop. It's a well known independent shop here in Atlanta. He doesn't have the ability as of yet to reset the service indicators. Staring at this is pretty annoying.

The local dealer wants to charge me an hour of labor to "look over the bike and make sure all is well" before they turn off the indicator.

The other question... Is there a benefit to running a custom map on a stock machine? One of buddies who is a welder wants to look at my bike in a few months to see if he can eliminate the CAT from my stock FT.

The EVO user model interfaces with the scrambler via the diagnostic port. It comes with cables for this and also to hook up to a windows based PC - which is required for programming if the unit before it interfaces with the bike.

Did a proper test run this weekend to test the Rexxer mapping. Unfortunately the bike does not run well yet from closed throttle to the first, say, 5mm of travel of the throttle. Little rumble/misfires and a bit hesitant, irrespective of revs. When opening the throttle further it runs really well; much stronger and a bit more aggresive than stock. Bit like a Dynojet kit for a carb Duc.

Rexxer has advised to go to the dealer for a TPS reset. I did the 15 min idle but apparently that does not do enough. Hopefully the running will be improved after such reset.

The Rexxer unit can do the TPS reset but I think Tony J mentioned that it was a bit more involved then that. It is the 2nd in the list

Bummer but I may be able to use my lady's work PC to this end.

Not planning on doing anything with the exhaust for a while. Do you think there may a performance advantage to custom map on a stock machine? Does disabling the 02 sensor without changing the can offer any advantages?

Also, can you disable the CAT electronically or do you need a new can to do so?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, TC3. Maybe some folks here will be able to figure it out in time. Doug (husband) used Triumph Twin Power and a sharp buddy with a laptop to work wonders on his Bonneville, the TPS reset made it feel like a different bike.

You can. The only reason the EVO unit needs to hook up to a PC is to get updates.

Rexxer gives a small - 4hp - bump even with the stock setup.

Yes, bike will run better & cooler, at the expense of fuel economy.

Also, can you disable the CAT electronically or do you need a new can to do so?
CAT can be disabled by just unplugging the sensors - but you need a Rexxer to clear parameters.

Beg to differ
The catalytic converter has no moving parts nor electrical connections to it. It will try to do its job when exhaust gases are passed through it. To disable it you must remove it. Here is a picture of the stock muffler cut open and the cat is the largest can in the middle of the muffler.

who the ell jig-sawwed this bit, cancer to our bicycle... cheers, next season will be the re-birth; this is the top thread on this subject on this bike, going SC-Poj. nude race edition (any tips on the CR-T can apreciated). Hats off to Tony who I hope is sorted implicitly though this media. efficiency, effectiveness, economics... grammar, logic, rhetoric; in that order...
