The owners manual says to use a minimum octane rating of 90(Ron+Mon)/2. When I looked this up this is the same as the US octane rating, not the Euro Ron rating. When I purchased my bike I was told that it needed 90 Ron, or the equivalent of 85.9 US. That seemed very low to me and after researching the way it is listed in the owners manual it is apparent that the manual is saying minimum is 90 US octane or 94.3 Euro.

What have other members been using and what if any difference in performance and or mileage have you noticed with using higher octane fuel?

I have access to up to 95 US octane near my home and if I want to travel I have non ethanol available about 15 miles away. Which always seems to make a big difference for me in mileage.

I have been using 98 (in Australia, not sure what that would be elsewhere)
Also keeping a track of KM's v Fuel in via Fuelly app, and currently getting around 4.3-4.5 litres per 100Km's.
Pretty good really.

In Canada, premium ranges from 91 octane to 94 octane (rare) so the Scrammy gets whatever is around when my fuel light comes on.

That is, unless I am near a "preferred" gas station.

Ethanol-enriched fuel is all over the place so I keep this website handy: shows which gas stations have ethanol-free fuel in the USA and Canada:

I've used pure-gas.org, as well. Very handy.

Ethanol-free fuel really does let the engine run "better". Power band feels smoother, engine feels like it vibrates a little less. Definitely worth going out of your way and trying it at least once. I have to drive at least 35 miles out of Milwaukee for the nearest ethanol-free fuel so I don't get it anywhere near as often as I'd like.

I use chevron 91, which is the highest octane you can get here without travelling to an airstrip for the good non-ethanol higher octane stuff. The 76 by my house has Sunoco 100, but its $8.99/gallon. Some of the ma and pa gas stops sell 93, but their gas quality is questionable. Northern California life.

91 octane without ethanol. I live in corn country, so they try to sneak that crap into everything. A lot of the convenience stores here only sell ethanol fuel or 87 octane 'regular' fuel. I go out of my way to not use ethanol in anything I own.

I've run my Ducati on a half mix of 87 when I had to and it ran fine. I've never heard pinging from the engine even when it was approaching 100F temperature.

It's my understanding that unless your engine is pre-detonating (pinging), there is no performance benefit to higher octane levels and in fact, higher octane means lower fuel energy. Like my fellow Californians, all I've put in my scrambler is 91 octane and it runs like a champ i.e. no pinging.

I would like to try ethanol-free gas AKA E0 but the nearest gas station that has it is 100 miles away. I wonder how long before all we find at the pump is E85.:(
