Hi guys, first post here. I've owned my Scrambler for about a month and over the weekend there was a storm. This storm shook a tree limb loose which then proceeded to fall onto my new Scrambler:crying::crying::crying:

See the gory details here: https://goo.gl/photos/D84zmPfwp4zYPzAs6

I don't even know the official name of the part that's broken, so if someone could help me out with that + maybe a part #, that would be great.

Since my insurance has a $1000 deductible I was wondering what the best course of action would be. I know I should probably avoid the dealership repair shop, but do you guys have any other tips on how to find a good deal? Anyone in the Charlotte area, and know any trustworthy repair shops?

Would it be possible for me to order the part and replace it myself?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I have the complete bracket available with hardware. In like new condition. All you would have to do is reattach new bracket with the three attachment bolts, attach plate and run existing wire for plate light.

$20 to cover the cost to box and pack item plus shipping. Guessing $30 to $40 total. Private message me if interested.

That's a lucky "break". Could have been much worse. In terms of options, you have 3, none of which should merit going through your insurance (avoid the claim because your deductible is too high):

1) You can replace with the same OEM part (I would guess $350 or so) or so from the dealer

2) You could source a used one online from anyone who has done a tail tidy, or

3) you could opt to relocate the license plate yourself with an aftermarket tail tidy kit

Just make sure you give the bike a really good once over to make sure the tree did not bend the swingarm, rim or subframe, in which case calling your insurance might make more sense.

Thank you everyone for the super informative replies. I just PMed STC, so hopefully i can replace this myself. The Tail Tidy is also a good idea.. may explore that one down the road. Never thought I'd be performing maintenance on my bike this early. Time to invest in a shed.

Would the insurance even cover something like this? Sometimes a situation like this is considered "an act of God" and you can't claim it (which I think is stupid because this seems like the exact situation that you should be able to claim something).
