Totaled and replaced Red Icon within two months.

I have not been able to get through this post until now. I was the proud owner of a red Icon that I was immensely proud of and made several posts about. Well, in a fit of misguided trust, I allowed my son and his friend to take it around the block. Dumbass friend did not heed that warning, nor the one about "easy on the throttle and brakes" and the result was a totaled 2015 Red Icon. Due to the time to execute the insurance claim, I went ahead and replaced the Icon with a Full Throttle and a rear Ohlins shock. The Adreani Group front fork cartridges go in Thursday (no sympathies for first world problems). I love them both, especially the suspension and Termi exhaust on the full throttle, but the Red Icon was a beauty and I was so proud of it. I know some will say how could I let that happen to a beautiful Duc...believe me, I do to. Images follow.

That really sucks. At least you had insurance and I assume the 'friend' is OK.

Did your dealership order the Andreani fork cartridges? My dealership won't order them and I am trying to figure out the best way to get them here in the States.
Sorry to hear about the accident. Hope you'll get everything covered by insurance.

But from the pics it doesn't look totalled to me. The front is broken and some scratches on the exhaust but the tank, engine, frame seem fine? Maybe we just can't see that on the pics.

Anyways have a lot of fun with your full throttle! Love the look of the Termis on it. It's by far the best looking exhaust for the Scrambler imho.
Congrats on the FT, cb. I'd have a hard time not giving dumbass friend the evil eye every time he/she comes around.

They did, yes, and are stowing them for me until I am ready.

Oh, they (dumbass and enabling dumbass father), are not welcome here anymore.

The kid destroyed about every system on the bike. Frame, forks, exhaust, bars, wheels. The steering stops are broken, which is sufficient to total the bike. That will not stop me from buying it back, putting it in a frame jig and rebuilding a custom scrambler.
Well that is fantastic news! It sounds like the money isn't a huge issue, so look on it as an awesome opportunity to do a serious custom build!
Why are some beating up on the sons friend? He should never have been given permission to ride it in first place.
Oh man, I'm *still* waiting for my red Icon. I don't understand how some places just have extras sitting to picked up.

Although I guess I'd be happy to get right back on the road. Note to self: no friends are getting test rides.
These things happen. Ultimately the insurance covered you and you ended up getting a new bike and no one was hurt so it sounds like it turned out about as well as you could have hoped given that it happened.

Glad you are back out riding a Scrambler again.
Kinda reminds me of something that happened to me when I was 16. I had a much beloved EX500 (Ninja) that I rode over 6,000 miles during the middle of winter in Colorado with bald tires because I was so obsessed with it (and broke). One of my buddies came over one day when I was in the garage and he had asked me about 50x if he could take it for a spin. I didn't want to say yes, but I finally relented. I said you can go around the block once, and sure enough a couple minutes later he comes running up to my garage with ripped jeans and bloodied hands and just kept saying he was sorry. He got in his car and drove away without even telling me what happened, so I walked to the end of the street and there was my poor bike still running dropped on gravel spewing coolant everywhere. It was a total loss, and I literally never saw that punk again (went to different schools). Seeing your bike smashed up by someone else is just about the worst feeling imaginable! Glad to see you were able to get it all resolved super quick and good luck with the new bike!

This is why I looked at my friend and laughed at his face when he asked if he could take it down the street the day I brought it home... Never once have I heard of him even being on a bike, it definitely wasn't about to be mine.
Well... congrats on the new bike!
To ask a guy if it is all right to ride his bike is like asking if it is all right to sleep with his girlfriend/wife, totally uncool. Hopefully the drop on his head taught him some manners.

I hope your son's friend is okay and uninjured. I hope the dumbass friend isn't a real azzhole (or has azzhole parents) that would turn around and sue you.. I know that would be a crazy scenario, but I've read too many real cases of wonky law suits (and outcomes) from US history and law case studies.
Raised in a family that would not allow another family member drive a their car, much less a friend or motorcycle. Not so much a trust issue, we just knew how much an ass we would be until things were made right. You did give him the keys (which is probably what really sucks along with what went down with the other family afterwards). But it sounds as if no one got too hurt, you can afford a replacement, and a custom (cool).

Never loan your horse, your money, your dog, or your wife to family or friends. Just the cat. They can keep the cat; unless you have a cat that can kick the neighbor's dog's butt.

Brendan, If you are willing to travel up to Worcester, MA (near Boston) look at Wagner Motorsports. They have at least 5 Scramblers in stock, showing only one Icon in yellow - a demo bike - but they seem to get them regularly. A buddy of mine bought a red Icon when we took my Yellow Icon in for it's first service. Well worth a call. BTW, they were great to deal with, permitted a test ride and are open on Sundays!
