Do you have a Termi Race exhaust and love the sound without the baffle but would like it to be a little quieter?
Don't care for the out of place whistle sound that the baffle adds to the symphony?

Well you can get rid of that annoying whistle in just a few easy steps. You'll need a vise, a Dremel or other high speed rotary tool with a cutting or grinding wheel and possibly a drill.


Insert baffle into vise with the pin that's the root of the nasty whistle vertically.

The evil pin is held into place by the welds on the outside, grind that weld down until you see the outline of the pin. Flip the baffle, do the same on the other side.

My cutting wheel became worn down and I didn't have another on the second side so I finished the job with a drill since I had already "flattened" out the weld enough to drill on a round surface.

I'm sure there's other, maybe even better ways you can grind down the welds and then tap the pin out, this is how I did it with tools at hand.

Since the holes left by the pin are on the inside, your handy work is not visible and doesn't create any strange sounds itself.

Now install the baffle to enjoy the wonderful sound of the Termi Race at a slightly lower volume with a more refined sound.

Thanks for putting this together. I just ride without it but the whistling was really annoying so I'm sure this will help some who prefer a quieter sound.

Thanks LOST - just did it - chirping bird sound gone - the sound that's left sounds so much better - it could be my imagination, but it sounds deeper.
I assume the bar is there to allow removal of the DB Killer, so before I cut the bar out I made a little hook gadget that just manages to grip the inside edge of the DB Killer. I attach that to a simple slide hammer and am able to pull the DB Killer out.
I did this twice to ensure the first time wasn't a fluke.
After that I cut the bar out.

In case anybody is curious, below is a video of my termi with the whistling bar removed. As mentioned, the whistle is 100% gone. It still sounds really good but is much quieter. I think some of the deepness of the exhaust note is lost, but it definitely still sounds excellent. I'm going to give it a one week trial this way.

Nice. I also removed the little bar today and installed db killer back in. Didn't have time to go for a ride though. Hope it still sounds good and pops now and then .

I have a few more thoughts (I wish the stupid forum software would let me just edit my post) after going for a 15 minute spin.

It'll still bark and sounds great when you get on it at any time, but at any cruising speed from city to freeway, it's surprisingly civilized compared to running without the baffle. The volume difference when going any constant speed is pretty substantial. As somebody who commutes 70 miles round trip per day, I think I'll appreciate less volume when cruising along at 70 mph.

The nagging issue is that it just sounds SO good without the baffle, and with it in, almost all of the popping on decel is gone. It's just smooth purr and growl on decel. That's definitely something I'll miss.

Hi Guys,

Post Number #1 on this Forum - wooooo!

So I am about to fit the Termi Race pipe. I true style I had the pipe and bars before I got my bike.
I noticed a plaque with all the stuff about not being legal for road use + "race use only" riveted to the underside of the pipe.

Any knowledge as to if people are removing these. Guess its easier to play dumb if pulled up by the fuzz !

Here in another option to eliminate the whistling on the race pipe. I cut a piece of aluminum to fit in the pipe and pushed it up to the bar, then glued it in place using JB Weld. Whistle is gone and the good Ducati sound now plays from the pipe.

Thanks to the topic starter for this great tip. I also didn't like the whistling sound, but without the db killer the sound is just a little too much, and this is the perfect fix!
I also like the look of the exhaust better with the db killer in place.
I just took out the db killer and used a small loose hechsaw blade to cut the bar out. You can't even see it has ever bin there. Now the Scrambler sounds perfect!

I did mine over the weekend but did it slightly different, are used to hacksaw to cut away most of the roundbar and then used a file to remove the rest

Has anyone tried putting exhaust wrap around the metal pin? Curious if they would work

Just removed mine too. That annoying whistle is gone! Thanks. I was like everybody else. Without the DB Killer it was too loud and with it in, it had that VW Bug pee shooter sound. I said "me no like" ! Thanks for the help!!

I cut the pin in mine with a hacksaw blade but it's tough metal and took a minute. Now the pin just has a slit in it and it still makes a slight whistle but nothing like before. I'll probably take another section out of it once my hand recovers from the agro.
