I ordered the Termignoni Race Slip-on last month and I'm getting it tomorrow. (or am I?) In the last minute I started to have second thoughts about it.

I know the termi sounds amazing but I am not really after the sound since I don't really like loud exhausts. The stock one is nicely quite but the tone is meh. I just want a nice deep tone without annoying the people around. Probably never going to remove the baffle if I get it. And actually what really excites me is the new map that comes with it.
So I have a few questions to people who have it fitted to their bikes.

How loud is it with the baffle in? Is it pretty loud around 5-6000 rpm? The deep tone is still there with the baffle right?

Does the new map really make a big difference on low rpm throttle response?

I commute in a crowded city with lots of traffic everyday, so low rpm's matter. I read that fuelling is better after the new map but if it's a small difference it may not worth the 1100 dollars I'll be paying for it.

I need to make up my mind soon so I appreciate all the help, thanks!

I run with the baffle in as I find it too loud without. I think it sounds like a motorcycle should without being obnoxious.
Only ever rode with the Termi installed so can't comment on the low rpm response.

Hmmm can't really help, I rode a demo with the Termi on minus baffle and while it sounded nice started up , for me it was too loud. I really am not bothered about ear splitting exhaust noises! Personally I don't mind the stock at all, I know it won't set the world on fire but it's not an issue for me particularly as the Termi costs the best part of a grand.

Like you the snatchy throttle has been an issue for me but I can't justify the cost of a new exhaust just to see whether it might improve it (or not).

I will say though, that the demo was not as snatchy as mine at low speeds. But I will try other (cheaper) things first to see if anything has a positive effect!

Its worth getting if
1) You can afford too as its expensive
2) You think it looks nice
3) You think its part of the Ducati special parts you lust for
4) You don't mind attention of dog's and alarm's going off
You don't need if
1) You don't like spending oodles on something you can get for less
2) You like quiet standard exhausts
3) You do early starts in a housing estate
4) You prefer other brands which also can be better .

I vowed not too but I got sucked in again :( Regret's ? No it sounds more raspy and not so loud to upset anyone I know where I live. I don't remove baffles as I want my hearing to last a while longer. With the uploaded data it seems more instant power now but still pops on overrun which is fun.

I'm planning on breaking the bike in with the factory muffler which will give me time to learn to live with it or decide I can't live without something else. It'll also give the market time to bring other options out for us to hem and haw over.

I'm treating the Scrambler like a modern bike in my mind and looking for a funky hydroformed exhaust instead of throwing a long cone line a Norton Commando muffler on there. Either way though, these things sound great with an open exhaust so I'm pretty sure I'll need to 'unleash the beast-ah.'

My advice for "Notworried"

If fuelling is your priority then what worked for me was a Rexxer reflash. I had a 1100 Monster with Race ECU/Termis, which had hopeless fuelling around town speeds/commuting. The Rexxer reflash cost me $400 Aus and the bike was perfect. No more hunting/surging looking for fuel. Oxygen sensors were removed, exhaust flapper valve removed and much better starting. I cant prove this, but it ran cooler as well (it had a temp gauge - technically a lean fuel situation will cause more heat). However, it still had a snatchy throttle.
I have contacted Rexxer and they will have a reflash ready for our scramblers in about 2 weeks.
My scrambler was fitted with the Termi/ECU update from new - so I don't know how it compares to stock. But - it suffers from lean fuelling around town at certain speeds and has a quick throttle. That's why I think your best bet is a reflash.
Noise - I think its a personal choice - for example - I cant stand the noise from a Harley with straight pipes - its "selfishly" loud and its a "old" sound - out of the 70's - the other end would be the sound of a stock exhaust - the bike lacks some character. So for me its Quality before Quantity.
If it was me - If I lived in a block of units and left for work early, I would have a stock exhaust. If I used my bike now and again - I would have the termi with baffles installed.
In my opinion - because the ECU update still retains the Oxygen sensors to control the fuel mixture - you will still have some fuelling issues.
Hope this "personal opinion" helps a bit.
Ray.

I got the termi and put it on after only riding my bike once, for 12 miles, before the swap. So I don't have a ton of experience with the stock setup, but I did notice that I preferred the fueling after the remap. It's just hard to give a really good review of the map difference since my experience with the stock was so short.

I put 180 miles on it today in the bluffs of southeastern Minnesota with the baffle out. I'll say that after 4 hours my ass hurt more than my ears. It is a bit loud with the baffle out, but I absolutely love the sound and find it intoxicating. Decel sound is really rumbly and deep with little pops here and there. I found myself using engine braking a lot just to hear the sound. Ripping through tight twisties, carving up and down small valleys, and listening to that v-twin pump out fantastic music through the termi made ever dollar spent on it well worth it.

Now, regarding the baffle... I had originally planned to leave it in for a while to see how I liked it. After my install I noticed the pipe had a sort of whistle chirpy pitch to it, and I just didn't like it. I wondered if I had an exhaust leak somewhere. I decided to pull out the baffle and see what happened — the chirpy whistle sound went away. I plan on fitting it back in to see if that's just how it is, because I know I'd like the sound if it didn't chirp at me. I haven't heard anybody else mention this, so I'm not sure if it's my baffle or what.

Regarding my neighbors, my last bike was carb'd so I had to let it warm up for a few minutes before I left or it was just way too grumpy. With the EFI in this bike, I can start it and leave pretty much immediately and keep the RPMs down, so any noise I make is over with quickly. We also live on a busy street, so people are used to noise.

I had the termi w/baffle installed and remap done after riding about 100 miles with the stock muffler. My vote would be to leave as is unless you consider the looks of the stock mufffler an abomination as I do.

It's hard to tell by listening to a youtube video but the termi even with the baffle retained is much louder than stock. You'll find yourself purposely keeping rpms low when a Police cruiser is spotted and thinking about your neighbors when firing up the scrambler at odd hours. There's no denying that the termi sounds great but the stock muffler sounds very good as well.

I may be in the minority here but I feel that any fueling/performance improvements are minimal at best.

$1100? The dealer I went to charged me $1299 for the termi and two hours labor for the install and remap!

I have 50 miles on my Scrambler with Termi Sport exhaust (baffle out). I live in a congested metro area, so a bit of extra noise helps to be heard. I've had the Termi exhaust installed day one, so I have no experience other than hearing the stock exhaust on a demo bike, which seemed a bit too quiet/muffled to me.

Below is a link to a stock exhaust video/audio that you can compare to the various Termi clips on YouTube.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/hm9dyvvct0wkahf/scrambler_stockexhaust.MOV?dl=0

I'll be posting some video/audio of the Termi on my Icon later this week.

My vote is to go w/ the Termi Sport (baffle out). I think this comes down to a personal choice. I definitely lean toward more noise vs. less noise, but even so I don't think the sound is obnoxious -- especially compared to many other motorcycles (and cars). With my helmet on, the Termi exhaust doesn't bother my ears (no ringing, etc.). I'm sure there is a slight performance gain w/ the Termi but not enough to sway most of us -- it's all about the throaty sound and looks.

I with luxe here. Waiting until I complete the first service. I wan to break in it the bike and meanwhile see what else comes out. I know SC project and Remus have exhausts for the Scrambler.

Mine chirps too with the baffle in.

Posted this elsewhere but relevant here too:

After 2,500 well ridden kms with the Full Throttle shotgun Termi, I pulled the trigger on the Termi Race slip on.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the FT Termi. It has the best sound I've ever heard out of a stock pipe and many who I have ridden with could not believe that it's OEM because of how great it sounds.

The only reason for spending the big money on this exhaust for me, after carefully weighing my options, was 1) the louder, deeper sound (which I particularly enjoy from the resonator-tuned Termi race version and 2) the accompanying ECU map as fueling is critical for me on this bike and I am not interested in any custom tuning.

I went about switching my exhaust in an un-conventional way: rode my stock FT to the dealer, purchased the Termi slip on, had them flash the ECU, then rode back home (60km) with the FT Termi and Race map (and the slip in its box, strapped to the back of the FT on the highway!).

There was a slight difference with that map running on the FT Termi. Bike had a bit more punch and revved a little quicker. Probably a richer map which the stock system didn't seem to mind.

Then, I spent about 2 hrs installing the "slip on". You must think I'm a retard right? 2 hrs to install a slip on?

The thing about this set up is that it includes a separate chamber resonator (most other slip on a don't) and so the "slip-on" is actually two separate pieces. That became problematic when trying to line everything up with the stock headers and connector pipe, so I basically had to take most of the exhaust apart to get the jigsaw puzzle to fit together and get all the mounting holes and flanges to line up.

Have ridden about 500km of mixed terrain with the Termi Race slip-on and here are my thoughts so far:

1) The sound is seductive.

It just feels so right. It's a **** shame that this bike doesn't sound like this from the factory (legalities, I know) but it just makes an already-great machine that much better. With the baffle out, it just sounds like a proper motorcycle. Not ear-bleeding loud, just present, in a "don't screw with me" kinda way. With the baffle in, it made a really annoying whistling sound and so that baffle has been stored. Permanently.

2) Power is definitely up.

I'm not just talking butt Dyno here. My test for whether or not a bike is making more power is always the power wheelie. Stock, the bike could raise a little in first if I hammered the gas. Now, it comes up more easily and I can get it to lift in 2nd with a little help from bumps in the road. Fact, not opinion.

3) Fueling is 95% of what it used to be.

This was a really important factor for me as I have ridden other bikes with this motor (monsters) that have other brand slip on's and their fueling was affected negatively. I'm happy to say that fueling is nearly identical to stock (read: VERY good for a Ducati) with only a slight stumble that I notice around 2k RPM.

4) Heat is also up.

This is a subjective measure but in traffic, the bike feels like it gets hotter, faster than with the stock exhaust. This is not uncommon when running free-flowing exhausts and it's not a deal-breaker for me, but still worth noting (see comments/solutions in "ball roasting" thread).

All-in-all, it was worth the $ for me and I lives up to my (high) expectations. There was also a weight savings of (what feels like) about 10lbs. I'm not going to say that you can necessarily feel it but it's easier than me trying to lose 10 pounds

Thanks a lot for the review DJKham! Very useful indeed. I was leaning to the Race Termi after the Akra disappointment but now the chirping sound and the increased heat kinda are showstopper for me. I don't want to ride with the baffle out as I live in a quiet estate and don't want to piss off the neighbours and the bike gets hot more than enough in this climate (Thailand) so increased heat is a no-no too.

I'll keep looking I guess. Maybe someone will find a way to make the Shotgun termi a little bit louder, that would probably be ideal for me.

I'm interested in the race Termi too where is your dealer. East side or west side of Toronto. Of course it would be easier to name the dealer. How much was the part and the remap? If you don't mind.
