Yeah: cold air is more dense, warm air expands. Therefore the ECU needs the temp in the intake airbox (plus the pressure) to calculate the mass of air sucked into the cylinder and dose the injected fuel amount and timing accordingly. It is essential for mixture control, the bikers also call it MAP ( for manifold ambient pressure). As seen in another post, any problems with injection mapping (like stuttering, stalls, excessive consumption) are most likely related to those two sensors for temp and pressure in the airbox because the rest is electronic and either works ok or not at all.
