Hello All,
I rode my Icon to work this morning for the first time and noticed that I may have been going slower than the speedometer had indicated.

Can someone please confirm that ~80mph is the correct speed for ~5900 rpm?

At 80mph, I thought I was going fast enough, but was getting passed my everybody, so I started to lose confidence in the speed-o.

Thanks,
Kris

You must be in California. And if that is the case, I am sure it is just the jack wagons on the road are all hauling ass. Mines seems to be accurate, based on others cars speeds.

I am in California - Garden Grove to be exact. You're right, a lot of people do drive a little too fast/reckless around here. Luckily, at 4am, there's not too much traffic on the roads. Going home is going to be the fun part. Merging onto the freeway in my truck was a major PIA and sometimes scary, so today's going to be interesting.

Could someone with a GPS set up (littleowl?) mebbe let us know about how much lower the speedo runs? I think cars usually err on the low side (so you can't blame the manufacturer if you get done speeding). I am finding cars are pushing up behind me a bit when I'm trying to maintain the speed limit so I wonder if the scrambler is similar.

I use a free speedometer app with my cell phone to test my speedometers. I do that with all of my bikes at least once so I know where I'm at in terms of speeding so I don't get pulled over.

I built a cafe racer out of a Honda CB350 and actually changed my speedo faces (just printed white paper) to be accurate. I moved the numbers around to where they should really be :) I'm guessing it's not possible on the Scrambler. It's just nice to know when you're REALLY 5 or 10mph over the speed limit so you can stay under and not get a ticket.

In the UK all speedo's on every vehicle sold read high and have done for donkeys years. The amount varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and usually becomes greater the faster you go. Manufacturers aren't allowed by law to sell a vehicle that reads lower than your actual speed. Of course, this doesn't account for anybody screwing around with sprockets etc or self builds.

My satnav shows lower speed than the bike - exactly the same as my car and van. The difference gets less the slower you go (at 30mph might only be about 2mph out, but at 70mph might be about 5mph difference).

I'll check the actual speeds next time I've got the satnav on but it's definitely slower than what the speedos say :)

Your sat nav is showing your true speed :)
