My "first service light" just came on @ 630 miles. It might be a couple of days till I can get an appointment. So my question is …. how many miles post light should be a safe amount. How many miles have some of you gone past?

Someone, somewhere else in one of these forums had their dealership tell them they'd be fine as long as they kept it under 1,000. Someone else will likely have a better and more conclusive answer than mine though. :)

hi, told my duc tech that I may be in the middle of a 800 mile round trip when the service light comes on. I know, I know...but it is unavoidable. So he said that it should be nno big deal if the first 200-300 miles are a good decent break in. Then about service, he said try to hit a service before 800 or so. For what its worth. He's been service mgr there since 99, so has some good experience

^ We can't change our own oil??? Geez
You can change the oil as often as you want.....as long as you do the required services stated by Ducati.
The 600 / 1000 service is an indication, so if you would do 500 miles or 700 miles before service it is ok.

On our Hyperstrada we did the changing of the sparkplugs at 10000 miles service ourselves. Dealer was happy with that and didn't make an issue of it.
Was about 1 hour of work for a 2 minute job.

It definitely wasn't water in my oil, but I'm not sure if it looks normal or not. I'm going to call the dealer and pick his brain. I saved the oil in a clean container and cleaned my drain pan prior to emptying the oil into it.

Then can we do our own service(oil changes) and still be covered under warranty? Or does it need to be done by Ducati to be covered?

As long as you do the required year / miles service ( or get it stamped off in the maintenance booklet) it is ok.
I heard that Ducati is a bit more tightly with the services.
All depends on the relationship with your dealer. Mine is very good and they don't mind doing stuff like oil change, brake oil change, air filter etc yourselve.
Valve clearance and setup stuff is something else ( within warranty years).

Just had my service done at 800 miles. I made my appointment when I had 500 miles on it, but it took a bit to get in in and the dealer is 50 miles away. Be prepared for sticker shock on the service. They quoted me about $180 USD when I made the appt. Took it in and waited for the service to be done. Went to pay and it was upper 200. Said $50 in oil....really? also a new filter and seal...and get this...... labor was extra. Uhhh, isn't a first service...labor?? Was somewhat miffed over the deal. They gave me a $30 discount, as apparently my face showed the feeling.
