Should I ditch my FT for a Hypermotard???

9012 Views 13 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Krono
I had the FT for 4 months and 2000KM and the apparently the clutch is GONE!!! The dealer says it has to be replaced but they don't have it in stock. plus I don't know if it will be covered under warranty. Oh by the way Italy is on vacation so the dealer can't even order a new clutch...
So eventough I love my bike this situation has made me question the scrambler. Currently I can get on a 2000 km 2015 Hyper for less than what I can sell the scrambler for. And that looks like a good deal.

What do you guys think should I do it?

I know this forum is biased towards the scrambler but I need your honest opinions..

Thanks..

Up to you man, I thought about it. But I wanted a bike that fills the role the Scrambler does, not a SUMO.

cool bike but the seat is narrow and you sit really high on that bike. Not sure how it handles being that tall.

They handle very well, but you hit it with the narrow seat. Not for long rides if you're just cruising.

I guess you have some supermoto experience prior, that's why you chose the FT?
Well.. at least that was my case :p

If you still have that hooligan > relaxation feeling, then Hyper it is
Personally I am relaxation > hooligan now, so I will stick to my FT

Just my 2 cents :)

I've been really lusting over the HyperStrada for the touring functionality. Not nearly as good looking as the Scrambler, but the function is there...however more $$$.

Motard is a cool bike too...purpose-wise the Scram and Motard are very similar. Pros for the Motard: liquid cooled, some piece of mind as it's been around for a while, more customization options for the same reason, selectable fueling modes. I think it's like 25 lbs heavier...not a big deal.

Depends on what you are into! What is making you think Motard?

Consider asking for opinion on the ducati ms forum too. :)

I rode the hypermotard for a couple of weeks before ordering my scrambler, which is about 30% cheaper where I am, which was a key consideration. I still have it available to me when I want it (though I do not own it). Some thoughts:

They're both the same wet weight but the hyper carries all of it much higher. Im 5'9" and I can just about get the balls of my feet down. This makes u-turns troublesome and u-turns on slopes treacherous.

You can just get on the Scrambler and go. Like a scooter. I need to switch on mentally for the hyper.

The Hyper is far more powerful and prefers to be ridden aggressively. That said, it doesn't shudder as much as the Scrambler at low city speeds. Riding modes are very useful and the traction control makes an idiot like me look like a hero.

Scrambler toasts your chestnuts, motard doesn't.

Hyper has far superior stock suspension. I can just ride through most anything on that bike, while I pick my lines around the smallest road imperfections on the Scrambler.

You'll have more tyre choice with the Hyper. My dealer quoted over $600 for the MT60 set. I'm going to Metzeler once these wear out.

The simplicity of the Scrambler is under-appreciated. I serviced both bikes together. Scrambler rode out. Hyper's ECU update disabled the throttle (it just idles now). Been waiting weeks for Italy to send some parts while the bike lies there.

Neither bike has wind protection but there's still more wind blast on the scrambler. It's ridiculous.

Scrambler engine looks prettier. Hyper is a large black slab from the right side. But now I'm just nitpicking.

If k were you, I'd probably go with the Hypermotard and maybe get a Strada seat (much lower). The electronics package is very nice and it has that scary feel that I occasionally enjoy in my bikes, which you can choose to switch away from.

Thanks everyone.. I still can't decide, may be I'll leave it to next year so I have more experience on the FT. Looks like hyper might be a little too much for me to handle...
Good. I'd be bummed if ducatiscramblerunofficial stopped adding to my Instagram feed (your recent post gave it away)

I see your in Istanbul- that's a crazy busy, congested city and I think having a more agile bike would be better in that situation. Depending on your height and how much commuting you do, i would consider keeping the FT.

I'm also considering getting a HYPER strada and selling my Scrambler- I live in an that is wide open.

I have both and they are totally different bikes...one is fast and can get you in trouble the other is more of the cruising type

Thanks for this info. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Hypermotard 939 as I find the Scrambler a bit small at 6'2" (1.88m) and I am often scraping my toes on roundabouts and sharp corners in town.
My dealer has a 5 month old 939 HM with full Termi that is very tempting. Shame they offered a risible trade-in on my 14 month old Icon.
As I'm in the same boat, it is funny to see this tread popping out now,
so I feel less alone to be pissed by the Scrambler after a while (10'000km here),
>:D
My new bike --->
