Can someone please explain why there seem to be several Scrambler Forums with similar graphics and names...with similar topic headings and threads, but which are different? Who's on first? Are these sites hosted by Ducati? If so, why the duplication? I'm confused...

I was a little confused at first too...
Different sites with different site owners but since there's so much love for the Scrambler for some reason many of the same people post the same stuff on both. Some people have the same screen names, some people have different screen names and seems to copy paste their posts on both.

This site is owned by VerticalScope, which owns and maintains quite a few various bike forums and is part of or is owned by motorcycle.com.
I don't know who owns the other sites, seems to be part a of Ducati forum collective not ran by Ducati themselves.

I like the interface here since it's familiar and the same as a different bike forum I'm on.
I for one will not be double posting on two or more sites with the same subjects, that's time that could be spend riding instead. :)

Some people love the sound of their own voice. Others love to read their own posts over and over and over again.
Or in some cases, people know that not everybody is on both forums, and they want a variety of feedback. I know that's why I posted my Termi exhaust failure thread on both forums. It got difference responses in both places. Although I try not to double post much because it can be annoying.

As far as the site differences go, I prefer the other forum's interface. I like the more full rich text editor on the other site way better than than the standard rich text one used here. This site also frequently forgets which threads I've read and leaves them bold, and the other site never does that. Also, the other site will drop me to the first unread post in a thread when I click on it, which this site won't do either. Here I have to scroll around figure out what I read last. I can also edit posts on the other forum long after I've posted them, whereas here it's locked out after a few minutes (so annoying!). This site also censors some curse words that are barely even curse words, like ****, ****, and ****. So on all technical merits, I vastly prefer the other forum.

However, I like the people and content on both. :)

to weigh in a bit here... I don't have a Scrambler (yet) but probably will soon, but i'm still researching... anyways, the day Yamaha XSR700 was announced, it peaked my interest. And I thought, I bet this will be a popular bike that people will want to talk about, so I registered xsr700forum.com and set up a message board there really quickly. I'm a web designer, so this is easy enough for me. Not a lot of people have found my site or registered yet, which makes sense because the bike isn't even available yet, but I figure it may happen in time.

Well, a few other people had the same idea, so now only a week after the bike was announced there are at least 4 message boards for the xsr700, all with very few posts/membership. One will probably become the most popular, and the rest will die off a bit.

TL/DR: Setting up a forum is easy enough, so many people may do it.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
