Hi guys,
i just read Bmw is working at his new Scrambler!
Bmw will produce some diffenrent Low-cost versions of new bikes starting from the R Nine T platform!
A Scrambler and a Nine T Base model will arrive at the end of 2015 and they will have a 900cc Boxer!!!
The look of the Scrambler will be very close to the historical R 80/100 GS models (very close at the bikes in the pictures posted)....and i personally LOVE the Scrambler made with Bmw Vintage bikes!
R 80/100 GS
R 80/100 GS
R 80/100 GS
During the 2016, will also arrive a Cafe Racer model!
It seems like the prices will be in line with the Scrambler Ducati models...so, Bmw it's thinking to become the first competitor for the italian Brand!
What do you think about it?

The R9T is almost double the price of a Scrambler in the USA so if they can find a way to lower the price to be the same as a Scrambler it'll be an impressive feat. The R9T is a cool bike but not as every day friendly as the Scrambler. I also love the bobber GS80 bikes. I like narrow bikes better than wide bikes so for me the Ducati and a Triumph parallel twin make more sense every day than a boxer. I say this as I own an R90/6.

I wouldn't worry about it. You'd have to LOVE to waste money to buy a bike that will do the same thing as the scrambler! ;)

No doubt it would be a good enough bike but don't think it would directly compete with the size, weight and handling of the Ducati ... the attraction of the Duc is the fact it's so light, compact and manoeuvrable with enough power for what it's intended for. I can imagine the BM would be a bigger, heavier bike

It'd be heavier, but the boxers carry their weight low, so they're pretty fun in the corners. No need to lean as much as on the Ducati and they'll hold a corner. That's what's fun about my old airhead. Ripping around curves with those skinny tires on that big old bike and it handles just fine.

I'm in the camp of "why not own both?"

I agree 100% . Besides the scrambler, the other two 'narrow' bikes I was considering were the triumph bonneville and the harley sportster 48. Needless to say I am quite happy I went with the scrambler.

I hope this is a fun period in motorcycle history when other companies are all trying to cash in on the cafe/bobber nostalgia thing. When I bought my first street bike in 1997 (a Suzuki GS400) I was smitten with Triumph motorcycles and cafe racers. I was into them between when they were popular, so there were none around. Nobody else cared much about them in the late 90s. I bought my W650 in 2001 because it was the coolest bike I'd ever seen grace the showroom floors new (I got into the game after the Honda GB500 was a thing.)

I always liked Royal Enfields but have enough sense to not invest in an old bullet 350 or 500 (probably a smart move.)

And then after 2001 I've had a ton of old cheap Honda twins and they're finally all gone. It's great to see NEW (reliable) bikes like the Scrambler, and the Triumph Bonneville bikes (including the Thruxton and Scrambler). I even like the smaller Harleys like the Nightster, Iron, 48, and 72. I'm just a huge fan of simple, classic standard style motorcycles. I'm not brand loyal at all and can find something to like about just about any piece of machinery you sit in front of me.

BMW is a serious brand. I hate how they're sold locally though (at a farm implement dealer who runs all of their motorcycle sales like 2nd class citizens compared to selling John Deere stuff.) We don't have good local support for them at all. With a Ducati I'm stuck with one dealer, but they are good. The dealership support is a big part of owning a new bike in my opinion, so it varies wildly around the USA. The same company ran Vespa completely out of the area from mis-managing their franchise so badly even though modern Vespa scooters are amazing machines.

Moto Guzzi is right off the table around here unless you're going to completely be your own mechanic. No dealer in the state. We finally got a serious Aprilia dealer within 50 miles who also sells Beta. Both are great brands.

Honestly, what would be awesome is an Aprilia scrambler of some sort as competition to Ducati. Both are Italian and both would be performance over bloat and nostalgia.

I said it in post #21 two months ago about a new segment and other Ducs http://www.ducatiscramblerforum.com...rible-mistake-cannot-believe-3.html#post66649 This will be a new segment in moto. It won't be a flash and die out like choppers. This segment does not have the douche-baggery of other moto segments, even if Duc and others attempt to market it that way. I feel we're moving to a purpose driven time in our history, as in how can this be used, in what purpose? As opposed to look at me and my douchey self on this ridiculous bike. This segment is for riders who want to explore more than the street segment, but not yet venture into overland territory. If you look at what Ducati has done with the electronics on the Scrambler it appears they already have their ear to the ground for other models, they're just making sure their vision is correct before going full boat.

The deepest pockets and most motivated buyers are baby boomers and these bikes speak to them and the bikes they had as kids. I think it's a smart move. But if the timing is wrong, nobody buys your stuff. Hopefully the time is right now. In the mid 90s you couldn't sell enough retro standards in the USA. People were all about sports bikes. Then in the early 2000s they were all about their stretched ridiculous choppers. Hopefully after the recession has smacked people upside the head round about 2008, people are back to their senses and back to the basics.

The RnineT and Ducati Scrambler are not even in the same neighborhood. The RnineT is expensive, heavy, and doesn't steer, Even if they got the beemer down $2500, it would still be $4k more than the Ducati, and the Duc will run rings around it. I like beemers, but that is a different buyer entirely.
