Ok, so my financing is in place and I'm waiting on termi exhuast to be delivered to dealer and installed on my yellow Icon. Watched youtube videos. Like the reviews. Absolutely love the bike. I am scheduled to pick it up in 2 weeks. I live out in the country and there are no Ducati dealers anywere close to me. I am close to 4 hour away from the dealer. I have to drive up and trailer it back so thats 8 hrs back and forth. Not looking forward to driving back to dealer for first servicing but I'm ok with it. My main concern is if this is a good dependable bike in general. I really don't have the time to be running back and forth to the dealer for this problem and that problem. I'm really hoping this will not be an issue. Comments welcome. Thank you.

i was worried prior to delivery, but after my first ride (one week ago) all i can say is " don't worry, be happy". the scrambler is a well made, well thought out machine. it handles, brakes and accelerates better than my previous 1965 ducati scrambler by far. relax and enjoy the ride. i was one of the first to receive the classic here in southern california and it was worth the wait. ride safely.

Of any Ducati made, it's by FAR the most simple/least complex they make. The motor has been around forever by modern standards and is a simple air cooled 2 valve job with no traction control, color displays, adjustable suspension, cruise control, etc. etc. If there is a reliable and straightforward Ducati, this is it.

(folks are probably tired of hearing this, but here goes)
My dealer is 350 km away. I am retired enuf to:
take a good bus to the dealer's city,
spend 2 days putting the 1000 km on the bike fairly close to the dealer, spending 2 nights in a cheap motel near the dealer,
then will get the 1000 km service done, and ride it 350 km home.

There have been just enough issues that the thought of towing it home, and then having a minor problem, towing it back, towing it home, towing back for the 1000 km service, towing it back --- gives me brain damage. ;)
So if there is a problem, I hope to smoke it out during the 1000 km near the dealership. The dealer likes the plan too.

thread would be prob best named something along the lines of 'Scrambler, Owner Logistics'... no offense

i hear, you; for me, everything from icon and post mod vs the other 3 pre-mods and the overall auto sales tax in Cook County/Chicago to storage and insurance has been measured and weighed carefully... in the end, this is a Ducati that will have mass market after-market support; result, crack-on

I certainly haven't had my Enduro for long, I just picked it up Friday but I honestly can't imagine you will have to sort much out on this bike unless it is something that is personal preference. Its an engine configuration that has been around a long time but you never know, I think your plan to stay over is a good one. Besides, you'll get to know it real well in just a few days. I hope your trip goes great and the Scrambler meets all your expectations. I've been pretty thrilled with mine and put 340 miles on it since Friday.

Hey Charlie, that sounds like an outstanding plan. weren't for wife and young kids...I may do something similar. slow and low that is the tempo for miles for me. From what I saw from air cooled monster, it is a tough little engine capable of much without exerting much of its potential. Don't worry about it, you like the bike...go for it! IMO

I am lucky to be able to do it this way, although at age 72 in 2 hours, my body might not think that 1350 kms in 3 days is so great. Mind rules body... ;)

You are ambitious that is for sure. My only concern putting so many miles on in such a short time on a new bike would be the stock seat. It's new and mine was quite firm and I needed to take breaks here and there but I have some health concerns that affect this. At that rate it won't take you long to break it in.

I would see if you can get them to help set the rear shock before you leave the dealership. The stock setting is dead middle of the range. You might take some allen keys with you as well. I adjusted my hand controls pretty quickly after getting used to things, mine were laid back a bit much for my preference and felt much better after being moved forward a bit. The manual is online too so you could download it to your phone just in case you need it and this way you don't need to carry the physical copy.

We all expect a ride report! :)

Don't fret...the scrambler is a good machine. I have almost 2000 miles on mine. I love it and it performs as well or better than any bike I have had. Reliability is a wild card, but the 803 is well sorted and the most basic of the Ducati power plants. Enjoy the torque.

Only concern is the seat! The bike is as simple as they come nowadays - aircooled and few electrical gizmos.

The seat is the only problem - it puts me of longer rides i.e. limited to about 100 miles in one go, still waiting for a better option so in the meantime I have an air hawk seat on its way!

I've just had a airhawk turn up and its too big, I bought the small cruiser (its massive) and I should have bought the small pillion.

What one did you purchase as the bike is not listed and they haven't made one small enough yet.

I'm in the process of sending it back and i've just told the guy give me the smallest one you have.

I got what I thought was the smallest airhark- it arrived today and it is to big!!

I have tried it out on a short ride and it does make a massive difference but due to the angle of the seat it 'pushes' you forward and therefore is not comfortable. I liked the extra seat height though.

I think will just have to wait for a comfort seat from ducati :(
