Scrambler against Duke

The more I look at the two scrambler spy shots the more and more I begin to think the Scrambler is being designed to go head to head with the KTM Duke.

Ducati is on record saying they are interested in diversifying their portfolio and really expanding into emerging markets. Well look no further than the KTM Duke for penetrating emerging markets. The Duke in 125, 200 and 390 displacements have been big sellers for the brand in India.

Even look at the styling of the Scrambler and the Styling of the Duke...

I just worry that the Scrambler gets caught in an ugly in between style of too modern mixed with too retro. The Duke looks like a pure modern scrambler, while the Ducati spy shows something that is trying to straddle two epochs...

well comparing the test mule at least.. the Duke looks a little bit more sport bike mixed with dirt bike

the scrambler is like a naked bike mixed with a vintage dual sport.

I don't like how KTM made the naked look of it's Duke stand out even more with the orange painted frame, that IMO was overkill. They should at least give people the option for a black frame.
Thankfully the scrambler will look far cleaner.
yea ok aesthetics on the duke may not be for all but I'm talking about the model range of Dukes. I think the Scrambler could go up against the Duke very well and prove to be a profitible lower end model for Ducati especially in emerging markets where motorcycles are heavily relied upon...
The orange frame of the Duke is definitely bold. People will either love it or hate it. The Scrambler is going to be more restrained, and it will get by on its form instead of by painting it a bright color.

I think that it is possible for the Scrambler to effectively meet retro and modern styling. It could also go poorly. I think that people really are into the retro thing right now, so Ducati is just trying to give the people what they want.
Scrambler looks awesome even in this spy shot. I like that it is more tame than the Duke. I don't like the bikes that are overly styled. I want something that gets by on deisgn and not on color choice.

my problem is the way they do it is very tacky, not a 'clean' look if you know what i mean. Even some Ducati, Honda, Yamaha and Kawi bikes can be seen as having that "LOOK AT ME" look but they do it in a much better way.
not true. You can get the Dukes with a black frame as well. Orange frame is just the picture that always pops up.

LOL you guys are Ducatisti and forgetting that A) all Ducatis are painted fire engine red and B) the monster has a bright red frame.

they are both flashy designs. thats why people like them
The Duke isn't really the same style of bike as the Scrambler. They could be cross shopped, but as far as styling goes, the two bikes are quite different.
I don't think Dukes cross shop with anything when it comes to styling.
Ducati's will always look better than KTM's, I've looked at all the KTM's and all the Ducati's and all the time Ducati's look much better.
KTMs are known for their non ordinary styling

people buy them beucause they are light weight

have good suspension

and have powerful engines.
I think that it is up to taste as to which brand of bike is better looking. KTMs have a unique look that appeals to a lot of people. Ducatis also look great. People sometimes choose KTMs over Ducatis though. I think it is not an undeniable fact that Ducati is better looking.

well KTM and Ducati have only ever competed with the RC8 and Panigale. KTM has more of a cult like following than Ducati. People are ducatisti and they can't even ride, your a KTM fan only if you experience the brand for yourself.
Ducatis are sexier

KTMs have functional designs.

functional designs and flashy colors.
if they had color scheme's similar to ducati's they would look so much better
well if they looked like Ducatis then where would the variety be?
Ducati doesn't really have a color scheme other than red. Red is just as flashy as Orange KTM's. But then again the KTMs really only have the trellis frame painted orange...
