Anyone know what the max RPM is and is it lower than normal for the break in period?

I've hit the limiter a few times shortly after 8k with blinking red lights and the motor abruptly cuts out, is this normal?

6k RPM up to 600 mi, 7500 RPM from 600 mi to 1500 mi, then 8200 RPM, according to the manual. I have hit the rev limited but did not notice the engine cutting out, but it flashes the lights on the control panel and does not rev higher. I want to say it does not accept further throttle input, but it is not ride-by-wire so that would not make sense.

The max recommended RPM for these engines is about 8900 at which point the first warning light should come on then the 2nd warning light and rev limiter shortly afterwards. But Max power is at 8250 so anything over 8900 on the over rev would be pointless i imagine.
If you do manage to hit 12000 rpm, can you post a picture of your engine internals visible through the newly arrived crankcase viewing hole.
For running in see cb_abq comments above.
Apparently the dealers can set the rev limits lower during the running in period but i doubt many will do it.

Correct, if I am recalling correctly I believe the first warning (solid red lights) is 8900, and rev limit is 10,000 (flashing red lights), but generally pointless over 8500. Some mags have indicated peak power at 8500, different from Duc published info at 8250.

It's definitely not 10k RPM. I've specifically watched the tach when hitting the fuel cut, and it's right around 9k. I've hit it several times now that I'm a ways past 1500 miles. :)

I really like the red warning lights though. If I'm going all out, it's easy to see out of my peripheral vision, whereas the tach is very hard to watch under hard acceleration.

I had a demo ride last week and I'm 90% sure it went to 12k. Rep told me to "get on it", so I did (reason not to buy a demo). Not super familiar with bike but I know there was red flashing on either side and the tach was coming down from what appeared to be all the way around. That was my first ride and all I can say is, can't wait for my UE to come in!hopefully in the next week or so.

A lot of mixed responses on here. Some have already broken their bikes in and others haven't. Mine is in on Friday for its first service so I will be sure to ask what the reflash does and whether it opens its up to its full rpms.

The mechanic at my dealer said it is limited until its first service because I tried to get him to take it of at 50kms when I dropped the oil for the second time but this doesn't explain why some peoples bikes have different limits.

Interesting, I am not past 1500, so have not gone there yet, but thought I read it somewhere...will check source.

Yeah, this is simply incorrect. It absolutely does not go to 12k. The tach does read that high, but the fuel cuts out at about 9000 (hard to tell the exact marker on the LCD). As I said, I've done this several times on my own bike while paying attention — not just on a demo ride the first time I ever rode the bike.

No worries though, you will absolutely LOVE your EU! I bet you can't wait! :D

Manual on page 53 indicates "1st threshold 8900 rpm (A). When the rev limited value (B) is reached, the warning lights start flashing."

Figure A shows 8900. (solid light)

Figure B shows 12000. (flashing light)

I believe I read in a mag, that fuel cut is 10K. But we all know mags are not always correct.

However, the manual doesn't seem to match with AH's experience.

AH, was the warning a solid or flashing red light that you experienced? 1st threshold should be solid, second flashing, it appears.

I believe it flashed with the fuel-cut. If some magazine said fuel cut was at 10k, I'd be curious if they were just repeating specs that had read or been told, or if they actually tested it like me. If they tested it and that's what it did, then their bike was spec'd different than mine.

Mine goes flashing with an apparent fuel cut at 8,000 something. I'm before my first service.

In general Ducs don't actually have a redline. Due to the Desmo valve system, there is no valve float. There is a point at which it just won't rev any faster and isn't making any power any longer.

I guess I'm just gonna have to put more miles in to find out :)

On another note if your still before your first service I would strongly recommend changing the oil before 600 miles

I changed mine at 30 miles (hard break-in) and the oil was very metallic looking with shiny speckles!

I'm gonna do it again at 200 then I'll have them do the 600 service
