I have not ridden the RnineT, but I hear it doesn't turn so well, which is something the Scrambler, or any Ducati, does not suffer from. I am sure the Beemer will feel plenty solid and expensive , though.

are two completely different bikes.... for weight, dimension, price, ranges of use.....

I've owned a 9T for a year now and have put about 12000kms on it and having recently picked up an urban enduro i agree 100% with the fact that they're very different. The scrambler is more agile and feels 'younger' and a lot more fun. The 9 T is feels more planted with more power, torque and power delivery. I love them both - apples to oranges IMO.

The price of the BMW is going to be much more than the Ducati Scrambler. I see that as the biggest difference. Despite both being Scramblers, they have pretty distinct styling. I think I prefer the Ducati, there is something that is more playful about it.

In fairness the BMW carries the extra weight low down making it manageable, the extra power nullifies any impact the weight would have on performance. It'll be loaded with torque and having had 5 BMW's over the years I'm pretty certain it'll handle like it's on rails. As for how it'll be off road, BMW certainly have enough experience to build a great off road bike, I'm just not sure that this is it though.

As for the thing with the surfboard rack, well Ducati's campaign for the Scrambler was bad enough, the BMW with the rack is just embarrassing.

I don't think it'll be as pricey as people believe, they'll ditch the brakes and suspension from the RnineT as well as all the premium parts making big savings, I reckon they'll bring it in around £8 - £8.5k to compete head on with Triumph and Ducati.

I can not belive that so many of us like the R 9T!
The basic idea is fine and fits perfect in our time, but it's not at all a beauty!

If you look at her from the side, you do not see the sculptural forms of design like you do, when looking at our S-DUC! - No! - all you'll see is an unharmonic assemblage of tubes and design faces! - There's now flow in the design! Sorry, for me it's all a bit like chicken-scratches!

Ok! - if you've been looking before at one of the japanese stealth bomber like the MT7 - I understand.

Now, if anyone thinks I hate BMW, I must say: completely wrong! - I love for example the R90 /6 - she is definitly a beauty.
But for driving not up to date.

Love the RnineT, almost bought one! The wife however would go ballistic!
On a different note I was at a bar/restaurant having dinner with 5 of my buds all on Harleys when a cute young chickie comes up to our group and asks "Who's riding the Scrambler?" Made my 67 year old day!:)

The cylinders are up in the air, so it looks goofy to me compared to the old airheads. I can find lots to love on the R9T but it's just too techy looking for me. If they started somehow legally knocking these out new from the factory I'd be all about it.

No beauty! - The R nineT is IMHO a "Form Follows Function-Bike" making striptease. But with ugly underwear and wrinkled skin!
Look at the huge tank! propably designed as an appropriate counterpice of the drivers beer-belly! LOL

@silverlux: If you realy want to go on a longer ride, the tank is good! But the seat... autsch!

And I like BMW when they have clean look:
