Hi Everyone. We may be able to address the problem of the lack of a service stand for the Scrambler.

Some years ago a bought a scissor-jack from ABBA , which was very good. See:
http://abbastands.co.uk/
Their main offering now though is the “Superbike Stand”, which works really well – it engages with the nut inside the swingarm pivot, (there’s a video which shows this). You buy a fitting kit to suit your bike’s requirements.

So I’ve been checking the site from time-to-time to see if they offered a fitting kit for the Scrambler yet. So far nothing, so I called them this morning and spoke to Steve who explained that the problem with the scrambler is the footrests, which due to their being right underneath the swingarm pivot, will foul the stand when it pivots.

He is minded to design a custom stand for the Scrambler with an offset which will avoid the problem, but can’t get hold of a bike to examine the issue in detail.

Anyone with a Scrambler living near South Woodham Ferrers in Essex? Steve said that if someone would be good enough to take their bike over there so he could measure it up, then take it back again another time for a trial fitting, then he’s make it “worth their while”, (which I took to mean “get a free stand”).

If you’re up for it, give Steve a call on 01245 322331, and post a reply so we know. It may take a month or two to get into production, but thereafter we’d all have access to a decent and secure service stand, (they ship worldwide)

I have an Abba Superbike stand that I've used for various bikes over the years, including my MTS1200. I tried it with the MTS adaptors to see how it would fit on the Scrambler. The Multi adaptors are a little too large to fit comfortably on the Scrambler swinging arm bolt heads, they could do with a slightly smaller internal diameter but they do work. I found that the stand was right on it's width limit and that the LH footrest fouled the stand post when trying to lift the bike. No problem getting it up because the footrest folds but tricky to get it back down again. A slightly longer LH adaptor, by about 5mm, would solve the clearance issue but the 5mm would transfer to the other side and the width of the stand would be getting near the limit for the sliding arm.
I've also emailed Abba about it and had a reply saying they were looking into it. I offered to provide any measurements needed but haven't heard back yet.

The bobbins would allow you to jack up the rear for chain-lubing, etc, but you couldn't remove the rear wheel (e.g. for a type change) using that method.

I do not change tyre by myself..... it is a tubeless type 180/55 almost impossible to take away from wheel without proper equipment, furthermore any new tyre need to be professionally balanced.... except your bike has not plate/insurance or you live in a deep forest, I can't see a reasons to do it yourself

I don't live in a deep forest, and I don't want to change the tyre myself, but I prefer to take a the loose wheel to my local tyre seller when I need a new tyre or to have a puncture repaired.

Much cheaper (and nearer) than going back to my Ducati dealer, and I'll have a choice of tyres rather than just the OEM type, (though actually the standard tyres are pretty good in my opinion...)

After some email discussion with ABBA I bought a pair of adaptors for a 796 to use with my ABBA Superbike stand. It works a treat. :)

As stated in the first post there is an issue with the LH footrest fowling the stand but I solved this simply by folding the footrest and inserting a piece of alloy in the hinge to hold it up clear of the stand.

Along with the front stand it's super for cleaning the wire wheels and the height is not an issue.

Cool! Thanks for sharing the pics.
Btw, it's very hard to keep eyes off your beautiful Classic & focus on the paddock stand. >:D

Resurrecting this old thread to say "Thank you!"

I've been hitting my head against the wall trying to figure out how to lift the bike to do chain and rear-wheel maintenance. I refuse to be dependent upon a dealer service to lube and adjust my chain! That's just idiotic. And doing it without a way to get the rear wheel off the ground is an absurd PITA. I don't capriciously buy a motorcycle to look at and pose with. I buy one to ride, which means I must be able to efficiently perform simple, standard maintenance tasks and cannot be waiting three weeks for a pricey service appointment just to adjust and lube the chain. Grr. Ducati's attitude on this stuff is annoying as all heck.

(minor rant:
Why Ducati chose not to fit the dog-leg swing arm with lifting bobbin mounts is beyond me. It would have been so easy if all I needed to do was buy a pair of lifting bobbins and a rear wheel paddock stand like the ones that nearly any other center-stand-less bike uses... Sigh.
/rant)

Anyway, I looked at the abba Superbike stand and its attachments. It's pretty much exactly what I thought I'd have to design and construct myself ... and well worth it for $240 (USA price, delivered with an accessory tool tray from Motorcycle Equipment - Abba Stands USA). With this stand, a chain lubrication or adjustment should be only a ten minute job. :D

Thanks again!
