hi ralph. I asked my wife's cousin's dad. haha but true! he is a sheriff in san Bernardino county (26 yrs). after looking at image, he said he couldn't see where there'd be a problem. he said that technically it is probably a fix-it at bet but he cant imagine any officer pulling you over for that.I like it but unfortunately it wouldn't fly here in California.

on my Bonneville, I ran a black and gold plate form the sixties. I just had it made by licenseplatestv.com as a copycat of my existing numbers and put the stickers on.
know what I mean vern? anyways...make of that whatevers. risk is in the eyes of the bike-rider![]()
A lot of people run vertical plates here. I'm pretty sure it's grounds for being pulled over for a shakedown about insurance, and other illegal items on your bike. But the police mostly just want you to not speed or drag race people.
A lot of people with sport bikes curve their plates and run them INSIDE the rear fender in front of the rear tire. You can't read them once they've sat on the bike and the shocks make the tire hide the plate completely.
Sounds like California, as long as you're not speeding or drag racing people, the traffic cops just leave you alone.
Well, you are right about the Michigan plate law and you are the one with the vertical plate. So, as hard as it is for me to believe, it appears that at least in Michigan you can ride with a vertical plate in violation of the vehicle code without worry of being stopped.I think the same is true here in Michigan. This type of mount is fairly normal, I've done it on other bikes and never had issues. I thought i'd check into it and found this as well:
"A registration plate shall at all times be securely fastened in a horizontal position to the vehicle for which the plate is issued so as to prevent the plate from swinging. The plate shall be attached at a height of not less than 12 inches from the ground, measured from the bottom of the plate, in a place and position that is clearly visible. "

meh, I wouldn't worry too much. so a fix-it ticket is 25 bux. worth it even if once a year for looks sake.I probably just jinxed myself saying I've never had issues![]()
321.38 states "Every registration plate shall at all times be securely fastened in a horizontal position to the vehicle for which it is issued so as to prevent the plate from swinging and at a height of not less than twelve inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom of the plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible and shall be maintained free from foreign materials and in a condition to be clearly legible. "
could you post a side picture of your machine so that i understand the "fabricated S bracket" shape ? thanks a lot.Not sure if I like it or not but wanted to remove the factory plate mount and fender..
Used existing swingarm mounting for fabricated S bracket for plate and light.
crappy photo but you get the idea.
