First alternative is the KN-153 (KN-153 - K&N Oil Filters, Oil Filter)

Basic specs of the filter from KN are useful:
Product Specifications
Anti Drain Back Valve Yes
Bypass Valve Yes
Filter Material High Flow Premium Media
Gasket Material Nitrile Rubber
Height 3.344 in (85 mm)
Outside Diameter 3.063 in (78 mm)
PSI Relief Valve Yes
Removal Nut Yes
Removal Nut Size 17 mm
Style Canister
Thread Specification M16 x 1.5

I've been looking for an alternative using this website: Motorcycle Oil Filter Cross Reference

The Ducati filter is a type 6. There are some other M16x1.5 threaded filters around with this nice flat one I've just found:

Search Part : Ryco Oil Filter | RMZ127 Oil Filter :: Ryco Filters :: Automotive Filters Australia

This filter is only 59mm long (vs 85mm - that's 26 mm - over an inch saving! and one inch less sticking out!). Unfortunately I can't find any other specs on it yet. I may have to buy one and check it out.

Ryco filters are normally pretty good, I like that shorter length after hearing about the 2 banged up filters. Since I plan on changing my oil and filter at half the reccommended interval I might give one a go. Probably leave it til after the warranty period is over though, just in case.

I'm thinking of either remote mounting the filter or putting a dummy filter plate on and putting a filter in the oil cooler line.

The way I ride (50 year old hooligan - probably the only one ever arrested in Singapore for doing wheelies and almost banned from Ducati after I wheelied their demo scrambler) I can't afford a delicate oil filter, esp in Singapore where going up and down kerbs/curbs for parking spots is almost national sport.

Quite fancy the K&N however has anyone fitted one with a belly pan.

Cheers

Yeah, it's physically jammed up against it. No annoying rattling or vibrating has been heard so far though. The nut is hollow and is not part of the internal oil filter. The belly pan is mounted via rubber grommets, so nothing dangerous is happening, it's just annoying.

Can anyone who has already mounted the Evotech engine guard take a pic from the side that shows how it covers the oil filter?

I have the guard in my garage (and will be installing it when I get my FT tomorrow) but what I can say from having held the piece is that it's VERY solid and could stand up to most off-road punishment. The same cannot be said of the OEM "bash plate" which is thin aluminum and more for cosmetic appeal. Would like to see how it covers the oil filter though...

Yes it more metal to hit but its not the filter metal. Theres probably not a perfect solution to the placement of the oil filter but a sacrificial guard is a great improvement.
Agreed. I'm still looking for a right angle remote filter mount that is designed for M16x1.5 threads... Lots of other threads around (I may end up buying one for M20 and have an small insert adaptor made).

@DJKham - Here's a pic of the evotech engine guard with a HiFlo HF153. Initially, I had a KN 153 oil filter installed after my first service. When I tried to fit the engine guard, the K&N filter stuck out longer by a half inch, so I ended up removing a new filter and fitted a hiflo just to make this guard fit. Hope this helps.

I just went on Amazon and bought a few OEM Ducati filters for 18 bucks a pop from the closest seller. That way I won't lose sleep at night wondering about the drainback valve pressure setting, etc... I think it's expensive but the K&N was 12 bucks, itself.

This is long after the fact but I am looking for a shorter oil filter and I can get the Ryco one you suggested. Did you fit one and if so, has it worked well for you? I have '17 Desert Sled.
