I tidied the rear signals on my FT and have not figured out if I want to replace the front signals yet. Happened to have some 1156 LED bulbs lying around that I had purchased for the Streetfighter and never used (paid the Rizoma tax instead...).

I decided to try them in the Scrambler's front turn signals and the results are dramatic. For one, they are about twice as bright as the stock flashers, but they also keep the front signals clear when not on and reflect brilliant white when on. It's a great $3 mod so here the details:

Ducati uses a rare bulb for the turn signals in that the 2 little mounting "studs" that lock the bulb into the housing are offset on the bulb's base. I've looked around for direct replacements and they are not easy to come by, especially if you want a color other than amber (Orange).

You can, however replace the OEM bulbs with 1156 type bulbs (1 watt LED or similar) if you are willing to grind or file off one of the little retaining studs. That way, the bulb still fits perfectly and locks into place with the 1 remaining stud. The reason you need to do this is that the studs on the 1156 bulbs are not the same mounting pattern as the Ducati OEM turn signal bulbs. Best of all, the flashing rate of the signals does not increase (even though I have LED's on all 4 corners now) so you don't require any resistors. Just plug and play.

Here's a video of how bright the LED bulbs are and the temperature of the light (which incidentally now matches the LED ring around the headlight):

I purchased these bulbs on eBay for $3 shipped to Canada and have attached a picture of the eBay listing if you want to try and find something similar.

Cheap mod. Quick install. Makes you more visible and looks cool. What's not to like?

The offset pins on orange bulbs are normal (not rare) so that people don't put white bulbs in the indicator and end up with white indicators (turn signals/flashers).
Have you tried the same bulb with orange less? If they come in the same brightness but orange, it could be a cheap way to get better turn signals for a small outlay.

What's not to like? In many countries it would be illegal to have white indicators!

Hmmm. I wonder how easy it would be to have DRL and indicators in the existing housing?

They do have the same LED bulbs in orange if you want to be 100% compliant.

Not sure about Auz, but in Canada, cops are pretty tolerant to cosmetic things like white flashers instead of orange and your license plate not being behind the rear wheel of the motorcycle. Loud, de-cat exhausts...also tolerated within reason and mostly dependant on type of bike you are riding/how you are riding it.

I bet that depends on where you live.

If in the city with a lot of modified cars and bikes, there's a good chances they even have cops knowledgeable about mods and accessories people can do to their cars to then act on infractions.

Anything to win that toaster at the end of the month!

That's kind of cool. And so they just 'work' right? The Ducati has a digital flasher rather than an old skool one, so there's no need for resistors and a special flasher change?
Correct Silverluxe. Much to my surprise, you can run LED's on all your signals and the flasher/blinking rate will not change (as you can see in the video).

Nice find on these, I just ordered a set for a whopping 13$. I ride an Urban Enduro and the signals that are installed I think look fine as is so this is a great mod. Thanks!

Well, I received mine and installed them and I am not impressed with the light output on them. I ordered amber LED's and they look OK but they are certainly not as bright as the original bulbs and I am searching for others now. Hopefully I can find some more suitable before swapping them back.

Same experience for me. Finding bulbs with CREE LEDs that will fit is difficult and they are much more expensive.
