Congrats! It's a great bike to get around this crazy city on! I've had mine for almost two now. The suspension is a little rough on these terrible LA roads but it's a blast to commute on. What kind of mileage have you been getting in the city so far?

Hmm, I've gone through three tanks and I calculated this last one at 33mpg on 91 octane. That's way below what everyone else is posting, I was thinking maybe just because I was in LA traffic but there's no way it would affect it that much, and it sounds like you're getting about what everyone else is.

Fuel consumption typically improves after break in is complete/1st oil change.

Also, the sticker on the Scrambler tank says 'minimum RON95 fuel' (because it's a European bike). Using a lower RON fuel will decrease mileage slightly.

Fill her up with at least a RON 91 with additives, like Shell V Power etc.

The other culprits could be - a 'rev happy riding style', low tire pressures, low engine oil, a dry chain, brake pads etc.

It wouldn't harm to bring up this issue at your first service and get everything checked properly. 33mpg sounds like an unusually low number.

edit: just realised there is already an entire thread on this topic:

Yeah that other thread is mine, no worries. The octane issue shouldn't be a problem. In Europe they use the RON system to find an octane number. In the US we use a different equation (RON+MON/2) to find our posted octane number. When you do the conversion 95 RON (Europe) equals about 90-91 in US gas, so I don't think additives will make a difference.

And I definitely ride like a grandmother, at least while I'm breaking it in. I'm about halfway to my first service, I'll definitely bring it up then.
