New GoPro mount

Cool pics! I have no experience with a GoPro but really want one. There seems to be many options. Any advice on what to get?

A Hero 3+ is a little old but is a good deal and does almost everything the Hero 4's will do. Mine is a Hero 3+ Black Edition, I see no reason to upgrade any time soon.

How do you hook an external mic into the Hero 3+ ? I'm thinking of upgrading my circa 2010 Hero HD.
How long is the mount you're using there? I have the RAM ball hooked to the goose neck, but just a short dogbone mount.

Mount is only about 10-12 inches out in front mounted on handle bar. No idea how to use an external mic, never used one.
The Hero 4 silver has a built-in touch screen display on the back. A big reason to choose it over the Hero 3 any version.
My best advice would be to take a little time and watch various youtube reviews where they actually measure things like battery life, compare video quality and discuss the utility of features like the touchscreen. I noticed the other day that GoPro is coming out with a new less expensive but feature rich model whithin a month or two that might be worth waiting for.
