Gang,

With around 300 miles on my Icon, I've experienced 6 or so "stalls" while decelerating for a stop. The exhaust makes a muffled backfire, then the engine stalls out. The good news is that it fires right back up with no issue, but still not a good thing for obvious reasons.

There is a related post on the other forum. Interestingly, others have experienced the same issue both with AND without Termi exhaust installed (my bike has had the sport Termi installed since Day-1). However, the issue seems to be isolated to owners who have NOT yet removed the Evap Canister. One dude brought his bike into the dealer, who diagnosed the issue as Evap Canister related. Apparently the can cause a vacuum lock on the gas tank causing it to run out of fuel momentarily.

So if you're experiencing the same thing, it may be a good idea to start with removing the Evap Canister. :nerd::nerd:

I have just over 1200 miles and have had only 1 stall, that was with the EVAP canister still on. I removed it after 650 miles and have had none since. I can't say it was the EVAP that caused it, I just removed it because it was so fugly.

I've read on the internet that the evap canister can cause performance issues like what you have mentioned. This is the reason I took mine off straight away, no stalls for me but obviously not 100% sure if having no canister is the reason why but you shouldn't expect stalls regardless i suppose.

I hate to hear about this glitch. I don't think this bike in York doesn't has an EVAP can, does it?

I know nothing about fuel injection, but have been trying to educate myself. Unfortunately, I'm fairly dense, so not really gaining much ground. Anyway, when I read about ECU tuning in general there's typically a claim to address the factory fuel cut/decel mapping. We'll hope there's soon help for the Scrambler.

I have the Evap and absolutely no issues with stalling or fueling at 1000 plus miles...

I only use She'll Premium fuel, how about you guys with stalling/fueling issues?

Ok, so I have this problem as well. In particular it happens when I blip the throttle on the downshift when braking - get a pop and stall. It happens at least once or twice a day.

I'm in the UK and don't have an evap can and typically use 99 Octane Tesco Momentum (which may be a problem in itself as I have heard of people having issues with this fuel.)

However, I have also noticed that I get a bit of a vacuum seal in my tank when refilling - quite a bit of suction holding the fuel cap in. My suspicion is that the tank is not venting properly and the vacuum seal built up is causing the stall. I'm going to take it to the dealer and see what they say.

On my sf848 the evap can caused stalling but not particularly during decel. Anytime I was not on the throttle it would stall. stopping at a red light just pulling disengaging the clutch would shut engine down.
I think you have a problem other than the evap can although I removed that ugly thing anyway. It can only hurt you.

I've had the same issue except I haven't had a complete stall out. Annoying none the less. Told dealer at 600 mile service and they said they reset the TPS. It is better but still happens, just not as frequently. Evap canister is in place. In either event it should not occur. I'm looking for my dealer or Ducati NA to fix the issue. If we all complain to Ducati it'll happen sooner than not at all.

It could be tank vacuum

I have noticed a vacuum building up in my tank - creates a lot of suction when I open the cap to refill the tank. I suspect that this is the cause of the problem. I took it to the dealer yesterday and they said that they cleared out the pressure relief tube. Will see if that fixed it.

let us know how that goes. (not that I have the vaacum issue, so would almost like yours to fail... assuming it's an identical problem for everyone..>:D)

I have experienced this issue several times - first time was on my demo ride (on a different bike of course) and now on mine probably 4 or 5 times in the last 2 months that I've owned it (Icon with about 500 miles). Every time it's happened has been with clutch in as I revved the throttle. It gives a pop and cuts out. Starts back up but this issue is now starting to terrify me because if that happens in a moment when I need to move, I'm ******. I mentioned it to the dealer after my demo he said he didn't know anything about it. I'm going to talk to my dealer today now that it happened again this morning.

If anyone has any other info about this please let me know. Thanks!

Any luck with your issue? My dealer had my bike all winter and couldn't find any issues and it just stalled during a U-turn this morning and caused a real worrying moment as oncoming traffic got closer. It has escalated from an inconvenience to a very real safety risk for me.

Agreed and it is the same for me as it's a major safety issue no doubt. I have had a bit of progress I think-

I had my 600-mile service in March. i had told them about the issue before the winter, and told them again when I took it in for service. They said they would look into it, but (as I knew) an 'intermittently occurring' problem is really hard for them to diagnose. Which I get.

When I picked it up the next day they said there was a new map installed and they were hoping that would help. And it did. For about 2 weeks.

I haven't had much time for riding lately, sadly, but I've put about 150 miles on since the service. Within those first couple of weeks I experienced the POP of the engine that was usually followed immediately by the engine cutting out, but it didn't cut out. So I was thrilled because that happened a few times and led me to believe the new map fixed the issue. It popped but didn't die. Great.

But then it popped and cut out. Only once in those 150 miles so I think that's pretty good and I consider a minor victory.

Separately, and before this service I had reached out to Ducati customer service and got a call very soon after from a woman in Italy who was concerned and encouraged me to tell my dealer and have my dealer report the issue- she said without that official report from them they can't do anything.

SO- for those of you with the issue - 2 things:

1- tell your dealer about the map update and ask them to do it.
2- ask them to please report the issue to Ducati - the more reports the better since -as zswickliffe said - it's not just inconvenient it's extremely unsafe.

Also please keep posting to this thread if you have any updates.

My bike is now 2 and I had this problem from day 1, the dealer had it back and no success, I took to WDW and the Ducati guys looked at it and could find nothing wrong, however, it is one dangerous *******, goes this way, pulling off a junction blip the throttle let the clutch out give it some more and cough and dies, that time a truck was coming and my 12 year old was on the back and we were in the middle of the road and I was pushing the start button and you know how that goes. Happens in busy cityies on traffic lights etc, I spoke with the dealer but I know they dont know what to do and I sympathise, I have kept writing to Ducati about this and I will speak with them on Eicma next week, it is seriously dangerous and I have to concentrate on every light or junction to keep the revs up then pull away, without blipping the throttle.
