So this is mainly a question for the Yanks on this sight as far as specific companies, but any info would be helpful. Having never owned a street bike before, is there a certain type/grade of insurance I should be looking at? A certain dollar amount to cover my assets? What about specific insurance companies, are there some companies I should avoid like the plague and others that ar known to be pretty good? What are your experiences for those of you that have been riding for a while?

I know you aren't asking to compare rates, but the first thing I'll say is that it's nearly impossible to compare rates with other people in any meaningful way. There so are many factors such as age, zip code, multiple policies, driving record, credit rating, what limits and deductibles you choose, and the list goes on — it's really just not realistic to compare individual rates. I would contact as many places as possible to compare rates for yourself.

I use State Farm, and they have been excellent. I've been with them for over 10 years. Their rates are very good, and when I've had to actually make any claims (home owners and auto so far), they have been fantastic to work with. It can be easy to find a cheap rate, but that doesn't mean they will stand behind you when the **** hits the fan. There will always be negative stores to go with the positive, but State Farm does have a good reputation.

I would also recommend going with a deductible that you can afford and don't go with the low limits for coverage. The price difference on a motorcycle between crappy 25/50 or 30/60 vs 100/300 isn't very much compared to getting sued. I know somebody that got sued, and lost, for tens of thousands of dollars for being underinsured.

Bearing in mind what I said above about comparing rates, year round insurance on the new Scrambler for me will be $24/month with a $500 deductible and 100/300 limits. I'm 38, have a clean driving record, good credit, and live in a suburb south of Minneapolis.

Def shop around. For example
some comparisons:
I'm 33 live in nj, clean record, very good credit. Msf courses.

With progressive and a 500 deductible the scrambler was $1200 a year!!!!! Which is more then my new truck. My Bonneville is $320

With Allstate the scrambler was $500.

if you don't have any other things on insurance plans, I heard geico is lowest. however, if you do have another car or house or life ins. then AAA is awesome. My wife and I had a tier 800xc and 1990 bmw 318i and a mazda SUV all for just under 1,200 bux. my deductible was $1000 though. at 500 dedu they wanted 1450, so we chose cheaper. two years later I saved 500 bux by going that route. AAA, good people. Old but good. I'm 42 btw;)

Very expensive!
Compared to Germany: I pay 40€ for the season, from March to Oktober!
I ride since 30 years, that makes insurance cheap.

Woah, you poor Americans. Germany here as well - about 35€ for the basic (mandatory) insurance package a year and about 70€ for an optional upgrade package that also covers stuff like theft, storm damage and suchlike. All *per a whole year*.

I think the insurance companies I've gotten quotes from think the Scrambler is some high performance sport bike or something because the rates seem far higher than what I was expecting. Last year I insured two Ducati Monsters, a Vulcan Drifter cruiser and a CRF250X full coverage, 100/300 limits $500 deductible for $800 a year for everything with Progressive. Adding the Scrambler was adding $720 a year just for that bike alone with the same coverage. They quoted me the lines of "it's a new expensive bike" - not really it's actually worth just slightly more than my used Monster. "It's a really fast sporty bike" - not really it's actually not faster than the Monster. Then a really interesting one - "We start pricing your bikes higher the MORE you have because we think there's no way one individual can ride that many bikes, so you might be getting insurance for someone else to ride the bike". That one through me for a loop! I'm actually throwing the Scrambler under my business insurance policies like the Monsters, so the quotes aren't comparable but it was interesting nonetheless.

$720? That's crazy. They should be able to look at the msrp and displacement and know better. I'm used to paying about $250 a year for a KLR... I'll be interested to see what I get quoted for a Scrambler.

I just got off of the phone. Full coverage with State Farm per year with a $500.00 deductible is $182.91. Not horrible for a brand new shiny toy.
Silverluxe, do you have multiple vehicles with State Farm or just the bike? I'm bundling with Liberty Mutual and mine is 562 a year... thought that was a good deal, yours is amazing though. Thanks!

Man, it would almost be worth moving anywhere else in the country to pay what you guys are paying. I live in LA. Insurance rates very quite a bit just based on which neighborhood you live in out here. I'm in Hollywood and I pay $1440 a year for my full coverage on my Scrambler. And that was literally HALF of what every other company wanted to charge me. I got quotes from nearly 20 insurance companies. I'm 33, have a clean driving record, and have taken the MSF class. Insane.

Ducati Scrambler 1100 Sport

I was actually shocked when my insurance agent told me my insurance on my new ride was $850 a year through Dairyland Insurance. I live in Atlanta, GA and i’m 59 years old. $500 deductible 50/100/25 with a rider for uninsured motorist added on to the policy. With a clean driving record and 30 years plus of riding experience. I believe the newness (if that’s even a word) speaks to the rating of the insurance policies in the states. That and the 1100 cc engine. Rating it just below a sport bike in general. Plus the cost of replacement components on the bike in general and acquiring them may weigh in on the rating.

I checked rates with other carriers and they all are priced higher or in the same general ball park as my current carrier.

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
