So it's always bugged me a bit that the incandescent bulb that came stock with the bike isn't the same color as the LED ring. Not to mention the fact that the original bulb doesn't really put out that much light to begin with.

I searched around for different solutions and decided to give the Cyclops Adventure Sports H4 bulb a shot, figured at $65 it couldn't hurt.

http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/3800-Lumen-H4-LED-Headlight-bulb-_p_83.html

They got it to me from across the country within 48 hours of me hitting order, not bad!

The product itself is really high quality, it feels made well and seems like it will last as long as they claim. Removing the original bulb was a bit of a pain in the ass, I used a tutorial on the how to forum on this site which helped quite a bit because the owners manual doesn't really say much. The only real issue I had was that the original assembly is designed to fit only the incandescent bulb, the LED bulb has a large fan built onto the back of it that did not allow me to put the original cover back on. this didn't bother me too much though, I know the LED is waterproof and I don't think rain would cause any trouble. I'm just worried that water will get into the assembly and fog up the glass, but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

What I can say is that the LED is far and away a better light source than the original bulb. Truth be told I think it might be brighter than my Audis HID system. I included some pictures taken all at the same settings to show the difference in output, the LED doesn't have the hard cut off line that the incandescent did but after a little bit of adjusting it seems to work just fine, I parked it behind my car which is fairly low to the ground and it didn't seem to overwhelm my rearview mirrors. This set up honestly makes the old light feel like a flashlight... I am way more visible on the road than I was before and that makes me feel better, not to mention the fact that I can see three times as far now. It makes the bike look much more expensive too, I normally get comments on the Ducati as is, but it seemed to turn heads a lot more than before.

Ive been looking for a brighter headlight alternative. Do you have a picture of the back of the headlight with the new bulb? I live in the pacific northwest where its been known to rain a little bit.;) I am worried about water getting into the headlight without the cover on.

I didn't take any myself but these are from the how to page... basically I had to leave that small back cover off because it just barely fits a standard bulb, the black fan on the back of the Led light starts where the other bulb has the male connectors. I'm sure that if it is a problem I can figure out something to cover the top of it.

I don't think the internal cover is a major issue - I assume the entire LED and light assembly fitted into the main headlight holder / carrier though?

Nice write up!

We've had the Cyclops in the scrambler for about a month now and find the same positive things you do about it.
As for the door missing off the back, with us living in California rain isn't an issue for now. I drilled one small hole in the bottom of the housing to allow any future rain water that might get in a place to drain out.
If anyone does come up with a 3d printed oversize door you will want to drill two small holes in the headlight housing to allow a little air circulation, the LED electronics can't cool enough if inside a sealed housing and it will fail. Cyclops now recommends this mod for any of it's products being installed in a sealed housing. On another bike for me it lasted a while before I realized this after it failed. Cyclops replaced the light free of charge and after drilling a few holes in the bottom of the housing where any water that got pushed in would drain back out on the other bike it's lasted with no issue.

BTW, members of ADVrider can get a discount from Cyclops in their vendor thread, for anyone wanting to save a few bucks. That threads also had more than you ever wanted to know about Cyclops LED's.

I spend more time watching the scrambler being ridden than riding it and can attest to how much more noticeable it is to others on the road. Like you said, night and day difference. I'll take the risk of no housing door for a safer, better looking ride. If the ring fails from water I'll put it back to stock and let Ducati fix it. :)
