Hello!

I did a test ride of a scrambler icon today and i really loved the feeling but i had to position myself a little too much at the back of the seat to be fully comfortable with my legs/feet.

I also did a test with a passenger and she didn't have much space. I'm a bit over 6"1 and i felt like my right foot didn't have much space on the break pedal on the normal position.

What are my options ? I have the feeling the very best thing would be a longer seat (custom made or nothing official). Do you guys think that would be possible ?

Is there any way to bring the pedals and the feet rest to the front a bit ? (im guessing not)

Anything else possible ?

Cheers!

I'm sure someone will be coming out with an adjustable rear set for the scrambler soon, that will give you a little bit of wiggle room. And the upcoming comfort seat should had a little bit of height, although not much. Custom seat would probably be the best option if you can afford it but I bet in a few months there will be lots of aftermarket seats coming out since that is one of the biggest complaints about this bike so far. I'm 6' with really long legs and I'm a little cramped too, I find myself scooting back into the passenger area. A flatter, bench style seat would be great as long as it doesn't ruin the sexy lines of the moto

I've used Seat Concepts for a couple of bikes, and foot pegs from Knight Designs; all good stuff and I'm betting both these will have products ASAP.

Worldtrooper--In the meantime is there a way to lengthen the arm on the shift lever and brake pedal? I've not inspected a Scrambler yet so forgive me if that's hooey.

In my test ride, I also felt it necessary to scoot back on the seat (I'm 6'2"). The perfect place to sit for me was right where the seat rose up for the pillion position, so it was quite awkward to sit that way - kind of right on the hump.

As I see it, we tall riders have two options to start playing around with. First, the handlebar. I think swapping that out for the Full Throttle bars might do the trick nicely. I was feeling cramped in my position if I sat forward. The bars on the Icon and Classic sweep back several inches, so by using the FT bars, you easily move your grip forward, and I think that will reduce that cramped feeling a bit. Will it be enough? Not sure, but that's likely the first thing I'll try.

The second thing is to have a custom seat made for a taller rider. A few things I'd consider, if I have a custom seat made:
•*Longer seat so my wife can ride with me occasionally. I think taller riders will need more length for the pillion, otherwise we are gonna feel cramped in riding position in the natural placement on the seat.
•*If not longer, then a flat style seat like my CB750s have. This may solve it all.
•*Possibly thicker padding that can raise the seat height a bit. Taller riders do end up feeling a bit 'big' on the bike. Raising the seat height by an inch or so may help that as well.

Out of curiosity, I did a quick check on specs to compare my future Classic with the CB750s that I have - and the wheelbase is only about .5" shorter than a CB750 from the 70s. I like the fit of my Hondas, so I'm now quite sure that with a little effort, I will love the Ducati Scrambler just as much from a fitment point of view.

My first impression during my test ride was a bit disappointed. This bike is clearly engineered for shorter and smaller riders. I'm hoping that Ducati comes up with an optional "tall rider" kit. I don't think it would take much effort, but it was disappointing initially. It almost had me canceling my order until I read the specs. Since I know I like my CBs, and the size of those bikes doesn't bug me, then I can make the Scrambler work too.

one other option you have is to get the Ducati Comfort Seat, which is 2,5 cm higher than the stock. I am 180cm tall (i think that should be 6.0) and I am just fine with the stock seat, but I have ordered to comfort seat, because I think that with that it will just be perfect, seating wise. And it looks better than the stock seat too! (it is the same as the UE but in black)

Well the problem is simple, the Scrambler is just too small for anyone over 5,9", but absolutely perfect for anyone less...
I don't agree with this. I'm over 6' tall and I'm quite comfortable on it. I do sit a little back on the seat, but I don't find it awkward at all. Below you can see where I sit on the seat, which is a little back from where I'm guessing the shorties sit. There isn't really room for a passenger, but my wife has no interest in riding anyway. I've also rotated my handle bars slightly forward since this pic was taken, maybe by an inch or so, and that helped a bit too. Overall, I'm happy with the fit. I will be keeping a keen eye on seats at they come out though.

I understand you concern Worldtrooper. One suggestion is to get the "comfort Seat" that Ducati says will be available in June. It is 1" (2.5 cm) taller than stock and might just solve the issue for you. I was absolutely amazed when I test rode the demo bike that I was able to flat foot it right out of the crate! As someone who is 5'10" with a 29.5" inseam I have suffered the reverse issue on nearly everything I have ever ridden with the exceptions of Harley Davidsons and my Goldwing. I had to spend $500+ to modify/lower my VFR 800 so I could get more than my toes on the ground when stopped lest it tip over on its side if the pavement had a slight dip where I came to a stop. Those plastic body parts are really expensive. I would love to have a Multistrada but I would need to carry a milk crate with me so I could get on and off the bike and wear Pee Wee Herman style platform shoes so my feet would reach the ground when stopped. All in all I have found it worth being patient and the dealing with the inconvenience of having to modify/adjust nearly all of the many bikes I have owned over the past 45 years so I was able to enjoy the performance they delivered.

My Classic arrived on Friday, and I have to say that it was a pleasant surprise that it fits a taller rider better than an Icon. I did order the Full Throttle bars, and they were fitted by the dealer before I even saw the bike - what a massive difference that makes for me (6'2"). The seat feels better as well, the slope to pillion is less noticeable than on the Icon (really), which lets me scoot back a bit if I feel like it. However, the FT bars alone do the job. The cramped feeling I mentioned earlier is gone now, all credited to the bars alone.

Once you're on the bike, it feels like a good fit at my height. I put over 100 miles on in the past couple of days, with and without passengers, and every ride felt great. She handles beautifully, has solid power, and is simply flat-out fun. It's hilarious to see the older men rubber-necking everywhere you go. Nostalgia-inducing for sure.

Good to hear the bars helped. I'm 6'2 and picking up my Classic this week, with the Full Throttle bars on it for exactly this reason. I really don't want to change the seat, the Classic seat is so cool, looks amazing!

You taller people have so many bikes to choose form, while us shorties (I'm 5'3") have very few ;) . I absolutely love this bike, I STILL can't flat foot but what fun I am having on it :D:D

Glad you have found it's not so bad after all RIGG5 :)

I agree. A lot of modern bikes have gotten insanely tall in the last decade. I'm 5'5" and I used to ride a tall TT600 but I stood next to a WR450 the other day and was shocked at how tall they are. I looked around the Ducati showroom and half of the bikes are out of my reach or level of comfort WRT weight (and I've ridden for almost 40 years).
