I’ve never been keen on the number plate holder that comes with the Icon model, and really wanted to give the back end a proper trail bike look - small high plate and minimal back end.

So we set to work taking all the bodywork off the rear of the bike, re-routing the number plate illumination, and creating a new, powder-coated steel fabrication to hold the whole thing together. Here are some photos of the first prototype - not finished yet but pretty close to the look I want.

The other benefit is a 2kg weight saving - every little helps!

Cheers,
Steve

Good work, a very neat professional looking job, but needs the tiny rear mudguard to balance it out. Too dark at the back. You'll get nice and dirty if you ride in the rain!

Thanks for the comments. The project started during a free afternoon in the workshop (I’m the guy behind Dart Flyscreens so the bike is a regular fixture round here) and I began to take off the bits I didn’t consider necessary.

I take the point about the mudguard, but to me the essence of a classic trail bike is absence of bodywork - in fact I’m looking at removing the front mudguard next, to leave the tank as the only bit of colour. And after that I want to sort out the bars, then the seat - the list goes on!

As for the tail, I need to resolve one or two issues, and then we’ll probably make a few of them for anyone who is interested. It’s not really my core business - more a bit of fun. Which is exactly what this bike is all about, after all...

Looks nice, and thanks for the Dart fly screens, too!

I too prefer the color at the rear of the bike and would like to find a way to eliminate the small mud guard plate holder section while increasing the dirt protection from the plastic rear fender as even with the small mud guard I get a nice dirt/road oil stripe up my back when riding in the wet.

As far as the Dart Flyscreen - that is a fantastic product! No noticeable aerodynamic change to the bike but it alleviates the wind pressure on my chest even at 140+ kph. Nicely done.
