Does anyone know how to keep the temperature or the trip A up as the default screen instead of it resetting back to the odometer every time you turn the key? In the manual, it sounds like it should be remembering whatever it was set on when the key was turned off, but mine always defaults back to the odometer.

Sorry that no Scrambler owner has pitched in yet. Probably they are all busy riding & having fun. :)

What I could make out from the service manual is this:

I take this to mean that one can't avoid seeing this screen on Key On. From here, one needs to press the button 2 at bottom on LH switch to get to Menu 1 options.

However there are some specific conditions where only the odometer is displayed and the console 'forgets' settings prior to the last key off. See if any one apply in your case. Apologies in advance if this is already in your User Manual. I only have the Service manual to refer to as of now.

The instrument panel stores Menu 1 settings in use upon KEY-OFF. On the following KEY-ON, previously
stored Menu 1 pages are displayed. (Odometer, Trip 1, Trip 2, Trip Fuel, Air temperature, Error warning - only if active)

In case of sudden and unexpected power OFF, the instrument panel displays the default settings upon the
following KEY-ON:
- Menu 1 default page = Odometer (TOT).
Upon KEY-ON, for every display layout, instrument panel shows for 10 seconds in Menu 1 the "Odometer"
page and then shows the page saved upon previous KEY-OFF.
Hold the button (2) for 3 seconds, when actual motorcycle speed is <= (lower than or equal to) 20 km/h
(12 mph), to enter the Setting Menu, where you can set any function.

Important
You can enter the SETTING MENU only if vehicle actual speed is <= (lower than or equal to) 20 km/h (12
mph). Within the SETTING MENU, if vehicle actual speed exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph), the instrument panel
automatically quits the menu and shows the Standard Screen.
Some Other conditions to verify and see if they apply in your case :
(Note: each point is from a different section in the Service Manual)

1. Upon Key-ON, the instrument panel always shows the Odometer indication for 10 seconds, then shows the
user's settings page.
2. While the trip meter is displayed, press button (1) for 3 seconds to reset TRIP 1.
The TRIP 1 counter is automatically reset in case the system unit of measurement is changed manually or if
the power supply is interrupted (faulty battery)
3. Whenever the system unit of measurement is changed from the "SET UNITS" function of the Setting menu
or in case of power off (Battery Off), the distance travelled is reset and the meter starts counting from zero
again (considering the new set units of measurement).
Again, not sure if any of this will help your case.

Only just seen this (was riding and having fun ;) ) - I don't think you can change it, the odo is a default whenever you start up, you have to manually change it to whatever setting you want each time I'm afraid :|

I just got my bike yesterday, trying to figure out the instruments same as you. I like the ambient temperature option, the tempreture seems a little high to me. Oh well, I'll sort those things out later, right now having fun riding.

Yeah temperature is definitely a little high. A minor annoyance, but I feel like why have it at all if it's not going to read the correct temperature. Another member revealed that, according to the service manual, the temp sensor is in the airbox near the engine and that may be why it reads hotter than it is outside.

Thanks guys,
The owner's manual says this:

"The instrument panel stores Menu 1 current settings upon KEY OFF, upon the following KEY ON, the previously stored Menu 1 screens are displayed."

And then goes on to explain "Upon KEY ON, for each layout mode, the instrument panel displays Menu 1 "odometer" screen for 10 seconds and then displays the page saved upon previous KEY OFF"

I took that to mean that whatever setting you have the Menu 1 screen on when you turn the bike off (temp, etc) would return when you turn the key back on, after 10 seconds of the odometer. Does that make sense?
