Hey fellas,

I just bought a new FT and looking to replace the front turn signals with LED ones. I bought the Bikemaster Micro Brite LED indicators that come with resistors.

How hard is it to install on this bike?

Is it just plug n play or does it require cutting/splicing/soldering?

Are the resistors necessary, as I have read that with the newer bikes, they're not needed?

Thanks in advance,
John

In short, it's not just a simple plug & play job.

The major reason being that if you move to LED's and want to avoid ricer flash, you need somewhere to put your resistors and all the ones I have seen (that won't melt down in the first year) are at least a few inches long and need somewhere to be concealed.

I have not taken the headlight off as of yet, but behind there is probably the most logical place to hide them.

As for removing the stock turn signals themselves, it's one bolt for each one, then follow the wire, cut a few zap straps and just undo the clip which comes apart very easily.

Keep us posted on how this goes and good luck!

Thanks man! Confused though. The NRC tail tidy has led and those don't need resistors, so why do the front ones need them?

I also read somewhere on here that a member was swapping out to less and first used resistors and they flashed quick. then he removed them and they worked normal.

Just trying to figure out whether resistors are really needed on these new bikes so I'm not creating more work for myself than needed.

I've swapped to LED in both the front and rear. Resistors are not required. As long as something is hooked up you will retain the normal blinking rate. The front connectors are under the tank, you can kind of see them peaking on the right side of the bike up and under. If you have the bullet connector (likely what your bikemaster ones are) to Ducati converters it'll plug right in. Personally I didn't want to fool with unplugging these or lifting the tank at the time I did it so I just cut my stock connectors and spliced them in. Later on I plan to get some better front signals and i'll use the ducati signal wire converters for a clean install. I could care less about the stock signals or their wiring.

I lifted the tank a lil to gain access to the wires on the right hand side. Very easy to do as long as you are careful and protect the paint on the tank. Makes lil sense cutting wires if you have the correct plugs on the new indicators

Thans MNT! Very helpful. Yes, I have the bullet connectors. Are you saying that in order for me to do the plug n play, I have to get some adaptors like the Rizoma or Ducati signal wire converters, where I would plug the bullet connectors into those converters and then into the bikes wiring?

No problem! That's correct. This is what I did on the rear with my rizoma signals. If the front is the same the bike wiring harness side is male, so you'll want the converter side to be female. I previously ordered a pair off eBay and got the opposite of what I needed (they also required splicing) the rizoma converters have bullet connectors so it makes it quite easy. They are only $10 for a pair.

Or actually they are $15 but still worth it I'd say. This is what I ordered : EE079H Rizoma Turn Signal Cable Connector Kit - $15.00

Perfect! I ordered the same ones. Just waiting for them to get here. I was hoping they would work and thanks for confirming they do!

Thanks for the pics TC3! Did you end up using the same rizoma connectors MNt and I are talking about? Also, in the second pic, are the connectors in that red box? I'm just trying to figure out what I'm looking at.

That pic just shows how easy it is to get to the connections. I used the brake light wire as a positive feed for the gear indicator i installed and the red block you see is what is used to splice the wire. Not sure which are the indicator connectors but should be easy enough to trace or check wiring diagram.

I believe they are tucked in here somewhere as the other connectors are. Remove the bolt holding the front of the tank and do as TC3 did to prevent any damage. Carefully lift it up, then it should be clear what to unplug as you are fishing the original signal wire out. They may have a white tag attached reading L and R to specify the side as well. You'll be removing the stock signals and their wiring so you'll know exactly where to plug the new signals in. Just do it one side at a time and pull the stock signal wire out, plug the new one in and repeat for the other side.

Thank you both! Now just waiting for this bike to show up so I can start playing with it. I'll remove the tank as soon as it comes in.

Gas cap has been ordered, tail tidy, front signals...all been ordered. Term Racing slip-on is ready to be installed...Just no bike yet.

The issues I am foreseeing are as follows:

1)Length of connecting wires in most aftermarket trafficators

2)The default mounting bolt & nut in most - how does one mechanically secure them on the Scrambler? (Refer 1. in the pic)

3) The connector issue being discussed above - most come with these bullet connectors (Refer 2. in the pic)
