I'm very close to ordering a scrambler however I've been intrigued with the monster 821 stripe recently.

I'm not the most experienced of riders but I'm worried that I'll get the scrambler and get bored of the power. It will be the most powerful bike I've had as I'm coming from a triumph thruxton. I love that it not that heavy and seems fun and easy to flick around however the monster with its power settings etc does interest me. I wonder if anyone was in a similar situation as me and what your reasons for and against were.

I rode both of them. The monster 821 is sportier, has riding modes and a cooler exhaust sound. I really liked it.
On the other hand the scrambler is more practical, looks really cool, it's more comfortable and the engine is really nice. It has plenty of power and I think you will not get bored of it.
Also is cheaper ;).

In the end I sticked with the scrambler and I think it is a better choice for me :).

You might get bored of the power, but the way I see it is..

"Scrambler: Come for the power; stay for the ergonomics"

The Scrambler has turned me back into a speeder because the power is there, but the bike makes it easy to handle. So the bike seemed fast the day I got it, but now I find myself misbehaving and almost being bored. I'd rather ride my Scrambler for two hours than a sport bike of any kind just due to the back and wrist pain I'd have on the sport bike.

The same thing would probably be true of any bike with less than 150 horsepower though. I'd just adapt to it and adjust my riding. At least with the Scrambler I'll probably stay out of jail :)

I've also ridden both. If you are a newer rider and looking to progress, you can grow for a long time on the scrambler and I would argue you will become a better rider, faster because it's a little less intimidating and easier to ride. Having said that, I also have bikes with more than twice the horsepower but can still have a ton of fun on "the little Scrambler" so I would not worry about getting "bored".

When considering these two machines, the biggest difference is the one is air cooled and the other is liquid cooled. For a more even comparison, you can look at the one or two-year-old monster 696 or monster 796 where price and horsepower will be similar.

Any of those bikes are close enough In specs that riding them will tell you which bike speaks to you. Looking at them on paper and reading on forums is a good first step but sitting on them, hearing them live and riding them is the only way to know you are making the right decision.

Also, did I mention that there is no wrong decision here since they're all Ducatis? ;)

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Utilizing all of a bikes potential is more rewarding than underutilizing it. What good is all that power if you never get to use it? The Scrambler is plenty fast for me and I need to watch myself as I constantly find myself riding well over the posted speed limits. With a lower purchase price, better ergonomics and killer classic looks it was the hands down winner for me.

I'd be interested in hearing from someone that decided to go for a monster instead and why but chances of that are slim on this forum. Right now my choice is Scrambler vs the older 1100evo.

I think the scrambler being light sounds fun i just dont want to get bored of the power after a year.

I have the Scrambler and test rode the Monster 821 last week. It is also very easy to ride, arguably even easier on the throttle in urban mode than the Scrambler. It is also very smooth in low RPMs. I didn't like the sporty riding position which makes my wrists hurt after a while.

Yes it has more power but here's the catch: to really get that juice, you have to rev it to around 7-8k where the power band is but at that point it gets really viby. High frequency vibrations which made me think my fingers are gonna come loose. And the mirrors are also completely useless as they vibrate as well.

It felt less hot than the Scrambler though probably because it is water cooled.

So for me I came to the following conclusion:

Monster advantages:

+ more power/torque (see caveat above)
+ easier throttle in urban for around town (small thing, I adjusted to the Scrambler and have zero issues with the throttle now)
+ louder stock exhaust (but I like the sound of the Scrambler more, aftermarket exhaust can make it loud like Monster)

Disadvantages:

- a bit heavier (not much though)
- very viby over 6k RPM (biggest annoyence)
- too much lean (had enough of sportbike riding ergos)
- more expensive

For me, it's the Scrambler hands down. If I could get rid of the heat somehow, it'd be nearly a perfect bike (after seat and suspension fix).

If you decide you want more power after the first year, you can drop some $ on a Power Up kit and get (allegedly) 25% more torque which should be anything but boring!

If you don't know what I'm talking about, search for the Power Up kit thread on this forum.

I go with the "boner theory" however I do have both sportbike and scrambler. I have gotten a little bored with my scrambler at times but after a hard day riding on my sportbike, I get on the Scrambler and really appreciate it. They both gave me boners so I did the logical thing. Bought them both and they both make smile.

I had the same problem;)

I concidered:
1. Speed - monster is faster but I ain't going to ride them on track every day (tree times a life time maybe)
2. Weight and portability - scrambler handling is just perfect
3. Electronics - poorly on scrambler (but again my car has riding modes and I'm using only most powerfull map so do I need it?)
4. Riding longer distance - agresive position will make me cry after 200km at once
5. Riding off road - scrambler really can do it better here
6. Sound- monster has better

I went for FT for Termi sound (to lower monsters advantage) and badass look. My friend went monster and for every day usage scrambler wins. When I go to country side I can really ride dirt normal speed;)

If I my girlfriend alowed me I would go for both;)
