Basically any modification is not for road use if you read the legal jargon provided with it, but it's interesting since this allegedly comes as factory equipment on the Urban Enduro. It will be interesting to see if dealers actually deliver the UE with the headlight grill installed or if they will just give it to the owner to install at his/her own risk.

What a load of tosh if true. Don't see how they can do much about it other than make you remove it. Lets face it if seen riding with it the light will be shining through the holes . Almost like a LIGHT

I think in Poland it won't be a problem. Bikes are getting homologated as whole part, so if it comes from factory and bike is legal in PL you can use it. If you mount something new you have to go service station to get checked if emission, noise and lights are ok.

I had something like this on previouse bike and never had problems with police. I think if vehicle is legal in any EU country it's legal everywhere. I bought my Yamaha from Italian dealer and legal papers where good for Polish registration office.

I'm a scooter guy so I'm familiar with goofy DOT laws in the USA that cause weird things to happen to bikes by the time they get here. My wife's Vespa LX150 had turn signals under the handlebars and the lenses on the legshield that are used as turn signals in the rest of the world are turned into daytime running lights.

Because the lights on the legshield were 0.5" too close together...

Also Genuine scooter company made some model of their Buddy scooter that came with a non-road use exhaust. They sold you the scooter with the OEM exhaust and included the new exhaust and an upjet kit and told you to install it at home.

Meanwhile, nobody cares where I live that you run your license plate vertical and that your tail lamp is made out of a single red LED stuck into a glass shotglass. They will never ticket you for illegal turn signals. In fact, turn signals are not even required here.

so far the grid results to be NOT on the "approval certificate" of the bike.

so we have two scenarios:

1) German one (pls correct me if I'm wrong): i.e. any parts even if aftermarket, is approved for road use, than it can fit any bike (see tyres, wheels, exhaust) without any bike producer "nulla-osta" (compliance)

2) Italian (for example) everything not mentioned in Bike Certificate, is simply forbidden.... for istance... tyres ,wheels, brakes, even the main bike dimension as lenght or beam (imagine to fit sidecases or wide handle bar) must be written into bike certificate (fyg in mine I have two beams, one with and one without sidecases, I cannot fit sidecases wider than what is written.

ran a huge grill on my triumph tiger for just over two years. not one problem, even after being pulled over 2 times. I think it is fine in the US. In fact, I ordered one for my classic so...

It's becoming more clear why Ducati was seeking a Land of Joy :)
