Has anyone upgraded their suspension yet?

Has anyone upgraded their suspension yet?, if so which modification/brand did you fit?, what was the outcome, i.e. are you satisfied with the suspension now or are further alterations planned?, cheers Mark.

I've fitted a Nitron shock, it has compression/rebound and preload adjustment, although it was set up for my weight. I have found it a very welcome upgrade particularly as it has steadied my throttle hand on uneven/bumpy surfaces (of which there are many where I ride!). I'm very happy with it, I'm not being rattled around like I was before.

I'm not sure if I will replace the front forks - I'll give myself some time with the rear yet before I decide whether the front needs changing :)

I've had the Andreani adjustable front end cartridges fitted and I collect my bike tomorrow, I'll let you know what I think after I've ridden it home :)

Which model did you go for Littleowl?

Jerry
I just had a Nitron R1 fitted this morning. The spring was rated for a 150-175 pound rider (+ gear). Even though I weigh 125, the shock made a dramatic difference in comfort. There's a bit of sag when I get on the seat now, unlike the OEM unit. I had my mechanic set it very soft, and I think I may stiffen it a little, because I think I may have bottomed out on a pothole in my enthusiasm on the way home from the shop. Fortunately it's easy to adjust.

I didn't touch the forks, and I don't feel I'll need to, the forks were never jarring me. Handling/control is still awesome. The only remaining comfort issue is the seat; the ridge halfway back needs to go. A used seat is on its way, and will go to my upholsterer; I want a flat seat, like on my Bonneville, so I can slide anywhere on it, and some softer padding on top and/or gel.-care

I'll post pictures when the seat is done.

Arrived at home? :D

I'm very interested in this experience!

It's a different bike, even on the stock factory settings. No more jarring, it's a massive improvement over the stock front end. Definitely money well spent.

That's good news Jerry, what did they fit?, front and rear?, I guess a little time playing with the settings and you'll have it just as you want it, dare I ask how much including fitting?

Just front end, I can live with the rear shock for now but moving forwards I think I'll probably chop that out too for the Nitron. The cartridges were about £650 fitted and I reckon it was money well spent.

That's good!, I thought it might be more like £1500, OK I might consider buying one this year after all and getting the cartridges fitted before delivery, that's if anyone can supply one :(, both dealers that I went to had a very limited allotment of Classics left for this year, Coventry only had one and Lincoln only 2, and that was 2 weeks ago!, I too thought the rear was acceptable, it was the front that IMO stood out as needing alteration, I had a rear end lock up earlier today avoiding a van on my XJR, nothing too dramatic but it reinforced my thoughts that a bike with anti lock brakes is a good idea!.
I spoke to my local bike mechanic about the harshness of the Scrambler front forks, he said that he had modified some Ducati Monster front forks because the owner complained they were ridiculously hard, he stripped them and when he pumped the damper rod he couldn't see where the oil could actually get out, so he called the customer and got his permission to drill a small hole to allow the oil to escape, problem solved forks now plush, maybe the internals on the monster were actually faulty?, but it makes you wonder if introducing a hole or enlarging the existing hole in the scrambler forks might do the trick?.

If anyone is in the Derby area I'm sure he would be interested in taking a look/using you bike as a guinea pig :)
Jerry Winder who fitted your cartridges and was it a ride in ride out service, I can't find anyone up here in Scotland to do the work. The ride is so bad on our roads I'm in danger of getting a recurrence of tennis elbow.
Nitron R1 ordered yesterday. ETA 3 weeks, can't wait

I just ordered the Ohlins front and rear package for $1249 USD. The cartridge will be here next week but I'll have to wait a bit for the shock.

Mine were fitted by my dealer Moto Rapido in Winchester, it's a bit of a trek for you, I can think of a few your side of the border that would probably do the work and I'm sure there must be more. It's not really a ride in, ride out job, takes about 4 hours!

Where do you order Nitron R1 from?
Thanks,
Rod
So has anyone had both front and rear changed? I'm loving the Nitron but wondering if replacing the front will make my bike PERFECT! A lot of money but I suppose no more than having a new exhaust, which I am not bothered about.

I'm currently waiting for Racetech in the States to come up with a spring and valve kit for the Scrambler, then I'll definitely get the front done on my wife's bike. When I had my Bonneville done I was getting quotes of between £350-£450 including VAT, parts and labour to fit the Racetech parts to loose forks. i.e. I took the forks out of the bike, sent them off and they returned converted.

I've had three of my bikes done with Racetech internals now and always been really pleased with the results. The thing I find with suspension is that you can easily ride around the stock suspension, but you know it's not great, and it niggles. Once it's been sorted, you stop thinking about it and just get on and enjoy the ride. I'm more than happy to live with budget suspension that's just ok, but poor suspension just irritates.
