Ouch! That must have annoyed you no end.

I guess this serves as reason#1 for installing the belly pan/engine guard accessory.

Sorry for your mishap - we are all guilty of similar stuff.
Look on the positive side:
You went to the trouble to show lots of people about something that could/would happen to them and you've prevented it.
You didn't keep riding - no seized engine and no oil on back tyre (read "tit up" for sure).
Replace the filter and oil and just say "f... it" and keep riding.

Well said. And I might be one that he is saving because I'm pretty sure I would have jumped the curb if it were me with nary a thought to the oil filter. But not now.

I know people won't want to hear it but for a bike with off road pretentions that's shite. For me it just shows that in reality, while its a great bike and I love mine, the off road side of things is little more than a styling exercise.

Agreed, at least if there are any hard surfaces to bottom on. If you saw my off road test video, I think I was lucky not to do this during that ride.

Thats sort of worrying, maybe the pics are deceptive but that looks like something I would have ridden any of my bikes over. Did the kerb sort of have an uphill downhill thing going on that made it higher. Going to check the ground clearance of mine compared to my DL650 and F650 just to see what they are like.

As an aside, how much do the 2 belly pans (Ducati and Evotech) reduce the ground clearance?

You've actually done this community a great service MotoChief, so thanks for the head's up. How much does the factory filter extend beyond the belly of the engine? Might be time to look for a shorty replacement.

Evotech guard ground clearance is 155mm bike with no rider at lowest point

The OEM belly pan might not have helped. In fact it might tear out the engine bolts. That's why I hope someone creative comes up with a better idea.

New front and rear shocks that lofted the bike 3" higher off of the ground might be fun too :)
