I just got a Scrambler Icon last week. Maybe 30 miles on it, still on the tank of gas that the dealer provided. Today I was doing some light riding and while I was in second gear I noticed gas gushing down the side of the tank. I killed the engine and walked it back to my garage, which thankfully wasn't far away.

I'm going to call the dealer first thing tomorrow and have them look at it.

This is my first bike, so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Any ideas?

Had this on a speed triple when new. It was a cracked fuel line. I agree with Motochief...

Loose or cracked fuel line. Did you look to see if you can see exactly where it is coming from?
I did not unfortunately, I was more concerned about turning the engine off at the time. Admittedly I'm not the most knowledgeable about motorcycle parts, but it looks like I have a good reason to start learning.

Thanks for your input guys!

If it was gushing down the tank then it sounds more to me like the petrol cap not properly closed or less likely, there's a split in the fuel tank. The fuel line is under the tank isn't it which would be unlikely to result in fuel gushing down the tank!

Mine has been back at the dealer for nearly two weeks. The control panel fuse keeps blowing and when the mechanic took the tank off the fuel connector was cracked. He reckons through poor design the tank is too snug. There is a big wait on parts so I have no idea when I'll see it again. I've had a good amount of bikes and have never had so much drama!! I'll be lucky to see it before next weekend and I've a week booked up in the highlands of Scotland on it. Not good.

Jonny have you asked them about a loan bike for your trip if yours isn't sorted by then? Seems reasonable to me that they'd sort you out with something.

The problem I am have Jerry is that I bought the bike in England but have brought it to my local dealer in NI. I cancelled my order with them as they mixed my order up and couldn't tell me when it would be in. If I hadn't cancelled I would still be waiting as they haven't received a single scrambler to date (I placed the order in October!)

Hi keiyo,
it would be kind if you told all of us the root cause of this old problem you had.
(before telling us your new problem (stall)).

Just found this thread. Like the original poster's first message, the same thing happened to me during my second week owning the bike. I had about 30 miles on it. Ducati roadside assistance carted the bike back to the dealer and the reattached the fuel line that vibrated off. I now have about 500 miles on it and haven't experienced the issue again.

My original post from back in May is here: http://www.ducatiscramblerforum.com/forum/ducati-scrambler-service-maintenance/9690-gas-gushing-tank.html
