Front tire tread backwards??

2765 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  MotoChief
Hi fellow scramblers. I was at a memorial day parade and as a gentleman was admiring my bike he noticed the front tire tread is backwards to the rear. We found the directional arrows and according to them the tires are correct although the tread pattern on the front, in my opinion, is backwards to pushing out water when riding in the wet. I haven't gone to dealer yet as it's sunday morning and I wanted to get some input from you guys. What do you think???

I don't pretend to fully understand this. What I do know, however, is that the friction is in completely opposite directions for the driving wheel and the driven wheel on a bicycle or motorcycle, and this may be behind the apparent discrepancy.

That's perfectly normal. Every bike i owned had front treads backwards. Don't exactly know the scientific reason but it's nothing to worry about.

The reason for the front tire change from the D407F pattern to the reversed tread design of the D408F pattern is to help address irregular wear and the associated tire noise and vibration that some riders were experiencing on their FL09 models.
Many Dunlop motorcycle tire patterns have “reversed front patterns” compared to rear, because different forces act on front and rear tires.

Its something I noticed straight away after picking my bike up and like you I checked the rotation markings and all was well so I thought nothing of it although I do know that the water is supposed to be pushed out to the outside of the tread.
