France and Spain 12 days

Hi
just done 2500 miles touring the french and spanish pyrenees over a 12 day period.
A minor issue the bike was the rear brake fluid resevoir was lost- probably by repetitive encounter with my heel whist trying to avoid touching down with the sides of my feet. Do any of the afternmarket fork/rear shock combinations do anything to improve bike height clearance?
Another problem after around 1800 miles was that the knumbness got quite bad in both hands and subsequently transmitted pain through my arms and up to the shoulder, particularly when going downhill, this may be down to my set up, I did change gloves but it didnt help.

however still a great bike!

Two suggestions that might help with the hand and arm discomfort: 1) You could put a set of Grip Puppies on your grips -- they are cheap (about 20 USD), are easy to install, and provide nice padding for your hands and reduce some of the vibration through the grips. I've put them on several bikes and have never been disappointed. 2) Use a manual throttle lock/curise control to allow you to take your throttle hand off the grip occasionally. I use the Go Cruise, which is also very cheap (again, about 20 USD), and easy to use. Hope this helps.
Hi, what did you attach the numberplate with? Looks nice…
thanks for the suggestions- I shall get hold of the grips and see how it goes

Did you attract any unwanted attention from French/Spanish police with the Termi? I am doing Spain & France but in the Picos then coming back through France and don't know if I should put std silencer back on (which I dislike) or keep the Termi on and hope i dont get pulled.
Hello

About your arms and shoulders problem, did you check that the levers are aligned with your arms ?
I mean : if your brake and clutch levers are in a too high or too low position, then it may generate pain in your wrists and by the way, in your arms and shoulders. On my bike, the levers are in a position where my arm and my hand are entirely aligned when my fingers are put on the lever.

Another thing is too be relaxed when you drive. Let your bike "live its life" and follow it, instead of trying to direct it. This is particularly important when you ride a lot in a short period of time, like you did.
How you getting on with the Kriega luggage? I'm sniffing round a few options and am keen to avoid any brackets 'spoiling' the bike.

Hi Mk3Nippa- the police didnt seem at all interested in the termi, and I encountered quite a few in both countries- so go ahead.

Vince-i tried the the grip puppies for the grips and they worked ok but wasnt a total cure. Im convinced its the width of the bars and the vibration that is amplified by the distance. I intend to try narrower and perhaps lower bars. Maybe use the rizoma top clamp to centrally locate the gauge and give more cable room.

Deano- the kriega luggage is great, whats quite suprising is just how much you can fit into the 20 litres and 10 litres dry packs. I also had the 20 l rucksack, wasnt too keen on that though.

My Scrambler is my third Ducati (after 2 ST2) and it doesn't vibrate as much as these previous Ducs. May be, you're riding it at too low engine revs ?
Maybe, you can also try to change the handlebar height by rotating it a little ?
coincidentally this is my 3rd ducati-i had a 750 and 900 ss-I dont remember any vibration issues with them but they had clip ons and I was 25 years younger! I shall try the rotation.
thanks for your suggestions
Chris
I had the same issues...cured with the Grip Puppies and the FT handlebars. I still get a bit of discomfort on longer hauls but that I'm afraid, as you said, may be age related! I also have the Kriega stuff and love it. I have a similar look to my bike with carbon tank panels and the bars...but I like your tail tidy set up. I had looked at tail tidies but gave up when I saw the recommended plate size, adding to that the need for a Euro flag on there, but yours looks the biz. What is the plate size, if you dont mind?
Just to add, I grew up in the pyrenees, paradise. I did a 4k mile tour 2 years ago in my now deceased Porsche. Lots of fun. Planning to return on the bike....just gotta work out if I can do it with a pillion.
I also find, that if I'm running hard, it's best to take frequent breaks…stretch everything, move everything around. Sometimes I just pull to the side, get off, and walk up and down the road several feet in front and in back of the bike, without even shutting it off. You'd be surprised what 60 seconds of full movement will do.
Ladybishop- its an evotech tail tidy, plate size-7 x 5 I think, the font is not quite legal but ive never been hassled.
My parents toured France and Italy in the 50s on a BSA B31 single- so whatever you read on these modern forums -it can certainly be done on a 803 scrambler!

Rogue, thanks for the advice-ill try your suggestion

How did you attach that Kreigs dry pack to tank? Tank strap? I have the full set of Kreiga dry bags that I use on my BMW going to use them on Icon as well. I don't want to do side racks for luggage, at least not yet.
Kriega sell a tank strap which straps to your bike and then thee dry bag straps to the tank strap.
check out the kriega website for more info -cheers
