One annoyance for me is the proximity of the right side foot peg to the muffler heat shield. My heel keeps banging up against it. I've had to adopt a heel-up riding stance which cuts down on my rear break reaction time. I'm thinking of going with the up pipes to fix this...but it's a costly "fix".

During my very short test ride at the dealer it was the first thing that bugged me...particularly when standing on the pegs...and it still bugs me so I am also looking at an exhaust based solution i.e. cost.

It is a poor design IMHO - probably driven by aesthetics/ marketing. Have you seen the shift-tech pipes in Ti or Carbon.

They look smaller and further back so may also work?

Good luck.

I realized last night that my left heel rubs on the frame and my right rubs on the muffler. So far, no ill effects though. I don't like the factory pegs because they're slippery, even when dry. I swear my triumph had those same looking foot pegs and I never felt my feet moving around on them.

I also thought my heel was resting on the muffler heat shield when I first got my bike, but it isn't. It just feels like that but is actually hitting/resting against the swing arm. Unless you're riding with your toes pointing up at a high angle, your foot shouldn't hit the muffler. Of course if you have a size 15 shoe, never mind. Get someone to take a picture of you in a riding position and see if it is what you think it is.

No need for pictures...just look down and see what your heel is touching. In my case it's the muffler shield. No biggie...just one more thing that needs getting used to.

Yeah, my size 9 foot totally sits on the muffler 90% of the time I'm on the bike. I switched to my new boots with no heels and it still happens all the time. The heat shield doesn't get hot enough to melt my boot on it though.

Usually ride with heels up and on the balls of my feet. Less chance of toes dragging in the corners. Havent noticed any melting on boots. My old Sidi boots are already melted from my track bike till I put a heat shield on it. I hardly ever touch the rear brake unless I'm rolling to a stop. As long the boots aren't melting should not be an issue.
