Underneath the seat there's a cable that's doubled over and cable tied on my Icon. I'm wondering if this is a feed for the number plate light when the tail tidy is fitted. If so it could be a good option for splicing into for a GPS unit. Anyone got any facts?

I've wired mine direct to the battery, as I've done with most of my bikes.

The only problem with this is it the voltage dropper on the GPS supply is powered all the time, and can drain the battery if left long enough (the GPS operates at 5v).

stolen power from cable going to USB plug, 12V under ignition ON only
That's what I did to power the heated grips.

Not if you keep your bikes hooked up to battery minders, mine are all hooked up to Optimate 4's whenever they're in the garage. I've not had a problem in the 6 years I've been doing it.

I've got some connectors that I'm checking will match the USB feed. The plan now is to connect a new wiring harness into the USB line to go to the Garmin, Autocom and Autocom bluetooth receiver. If it looks how it does in my mind's eye I'll post some photos. If it ends up looking like a dog's dinner I probably won't :)

I had a StreetPilot III on the V-Strom but it's now too old and bulky so I've treated myself to a Zumo 390LM this week.
When we used to tour on the V-Strom we realised that maps in tank bags demand that you to take your eyes off the road for too long. We felt much safer with the satnav. Well, that's my excuse for buying a new one and I'm sticking to it.
The only problem is that we have a hardwired AutoCom so I've had to get the bluetooth module.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to electronics. I have a tracking device that needs 12v, so charging it from usb (5v) is a no go. But do I understand correctly that the wire that comes to the usb is actually 12v "capable"?

So If I plug my tracking device directly to the plug that connect the usb I'm good to go?
