Hi guys, I've just found this forum and thought I'd join in the fun.

I placed a deposit on a yellow Icon last week, and today I was able to sit on one in the dealers. I'll get a demo ride when it stops raining.

I was very pleasantly surprised by how low and light it feels. It should be a lot easier to manage than the Yam FZ1 I currently ride. Can't wait to get it! :D

I wasn't looking for a new bike . . . and then I saw the Scrambler >:D

I might even keep my FZ1, I haven't decided yet.

I am a 5'6" female, so it will be nice to have a bike that's easier to manage in car parks, on cross-channel ferries, etc.

I had been wondering about something smaller, lighter and easier to manage, but nothing appealed until the Scrambler came along.

I'm loving all the '62 allusions too. The yellow is even called '62 Yellow. I was born in 1962, so it all fits for me :D

When I ordered it, a week ago today, I was told that it would probably be April. Yesterday they said that it could be as early as February.

I've not chosen any options, though I might go for the more conventional number plate hanger once accessories are more readily available.

We're not huge mileage tourers - we prefer A roads to motorways. The husband has a Sprint GT. We do often hop across to France though. We tend to do the Poole - Cherbourg crossing.

From what we know your bike (Icon) should be in the first batch and depending upon your dealers allocation its very possible you will have it some time in February.

Ducati have released lots of options (panniers) to date so if you have time visit the accessories web page. might do some cross channel stuff myself as this is more accommodating for my wife than my MV Augusta.

Cheers

I finally got the test ride on the Scrambler today - about 18 miles on roads that got progressively wetter ... and smaller. I did briefly own a V-twin (a Cagiva Raptor) about a dozen years ago, but this was my first ride on a Ducati. It took a bit of getting used to as it has a VERY quick action throttle whereas it is quite a slow action on my FZ1, but I loved it. It should also be added that it only had a little over 30 miles on it when I took it out, so it will still have a lot of settling to do. It feels very grunty low down the rev range, its handling is light and surefooted, even on soaking lanes, the brakes are well up to the job, the mirrors are excellent and stay perfectly clear, and the gearbox and clutch are both pretty good. On the downside, it doesn't have much in the way of a rear mudguard, so the back of my jacket was plastered by the time I got back!

Now it's just a matter of waiting for my one to arrive, which should be late Feb/early March. If I'm lucky I'll get it in time for my birthday on March 15th.

I am very grateful to Paul from Riders of Bridgwater, who took me out on the demo ride ... and then cleaned the bike up afterwards!

Heading off ...

Returning after the ride ...

It got it very dirty ...

Many thanks for the rundown and the photos just back up what has been writern its not to late to change to a Classic which has a mudguard

Thanks for your thoughts on this. Its great to see some people actually getting to try out the bike and give us some real world opinions on it. After trying it out for a bit, are you convinced that you will purchase it now?

I already had a (refundable) deposit on a yellow Icon, and the demo ride confirmed my decision. Mine has a February build date, so I should get it in February or March.

I was really hoping that rear fender (non fender) was there because someone knew more than I did about functionality. Thanks for your pics and mini review! The back portion of the seat shows how much crud gets by. The Classic fender looks better but I'm a cast wheel kind of guy. Classic fenders will add to the cost of the Icon less than cast wheels to the Classic. Still looks good though.

Jet, how tall are you? And your inseam if you don't mind my asking? Thanks.

Stay safe, John

I'm 5'6" tall. I don't know what my inseam is, though I do know that girls tend to have slightly longer inseam for the same height than men. For me the standard seat allows me to flat-foot with a slight bend to the knees. I certainly wouldn't see any benefit for me in buying the optional lower seat. For the record, with my FZ1, I can very nearly get both heels down, but not quite. The Scrambler does feel very light and manageable too.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the write up Jet!

I've got a FT on order, but every time I see this model in the red it makes me rethink my order.

I've been told it's at least May before my FT gets to Australia, so I have some time if I want to change my mind.
