It comes as a bit of a surprise, but the Ducati 899 Panigale topped the UK registrations list in December. That means that the bike sold more units than many bikes that cost about a fifth of the price.

For example, the Honda CBF 125 commuter sells for 2,600 pounds while the 148 bhp 899 costs 12,495 pounds.

Much of the success is attributed to the "entry" version of the hyper-performance Panigale range, the 899.

I wonder if the release of the Scrambler will have a similar effect on Ducati's sales.

I never expected this, at least it's good to know there are tons of people willing to buy a higher priced bikes. Just need to build it and they will come

My first thought when i read this was makes sense.

The way i figure is december s a typically slow time for sales considering the nasty weather and all. BUT with the panigale fresh out people wanted to get their hands on it. So you had typically low deamnd for this time of year but unusually high demand for the panner...

perfect storm :D

I think that this makes perfect sense. People aren't lining up to buy cheaper bikes or older models, but when a bike is brand new people want to be one of the first to get their hands on it.

We will have to see if Ducati can continue the trend for more than just one month.

for the scrambler? Yes, I've noticed that with other ducatis, they have such a cult like following most of their numbers come initially and then taper off as all the ducatisti are satisfied...

Yea I'm not sure it will be as big a hit right out the gate because it is a brand new model, but it should see consistent sales at first I think. I just don't see people who already have Ducatis buying this bike. I think it is going to be more for conquest.

The 899 is a pretty big hit.

And its a new model

Though its basically a mini 1199

But if they do the Scrambler right it could very well be a top seller along side the monster 696.

that is true
so far they seem to have set it up right to be like that.
just need to see more specs, pricing, etc.

I think that the Scramble will sell really well. If it has the same engine as the Monster and also is priced around the same, I think it will be able to ride its "I'm new" allure into top sales for at least a few months.

Yeah a $1000 makes a big difference, it would even grab the attention of reviewers and have them raving over it and saying how much cheaper it is than other bikes.

THe monster is already affordable in my eyes
Even if they sold it hte same price as the monster

As long as it is styled differently it will still sell

Even just being styled differently should be enough to have a good split on who buys it and who doesn't as both will represent different lifestyles. Im sure they will create some lifestyle around it.

Yep. a Retro styled monster? I think that'll sell. Won't cost too much to develop it either. Just built it right on the Monster chassis and engine

agreed.

lets hope the Scrambler will be something along that line. I would not be very happy if it was just a cheaper Monster with lower CC.

I want it to be Scrambler styled. Similar performance to Monster. A tad bit cheaper would be nice. Or same price..
