Last summer we knew Bologna was up to something when we started hearing that Ducati had renewed a trademark on the defunct Scrambler name plate. There were a few concept drawings that came out of MCN and an assortment of blogs, however it was not until fall, just before EICMA that we got our first gander at a Scrambler prototype. Then, all went quiet on the western front. Without a lick of news for several months many of us have succumbed to cabin fever.
Today I offer you a break from the insanity with a fresh batch of SPY SHOTS!
What we're seeing here is not distinctly different than the earlier spy shots we had seen, however we are offered more focus and a new angle! Look through the duct tape and rattle can camo and you will quickly notice two things, one the traditionally teardrop shaped tank and second the transition into an angular subframe, nothing miraculous or ground braking. What we should be in store for is a retro inspired, not a retro styled bike. Disregard the lighting as its clearly been borrowed from a Hypermotard in the parking lot.
I also seem to think that the trellis frame is likely all new as well. I had been convinced that the Scrambler would re-purpose something from the Monster or Motards. Ergonomics seem comfortable for a modern standard bike. The low and flat saddle harks back to bygone scramblers without getting all old school on us and the high handles that sweep back to meet your grubby little fingers seem appropriate, I can already hear you screaming CLIP ON'S YO.
The most important bit I know you want to know about is the little thing making explosions between the knees. Well it seems to be a 796cc airhead V-Twin stolen straight out of the Monster. Unfortunately the exhaust is still an ugly little underslung thing, lets hope by the time production comes there will be a high mount option. USD front forks, and a single floating disc up front round out the package. Are those Brembos I spy?
Now all thats left is the price...
