Hello

Here is a DIY explanation to add a protection grid on the oil cooler.

You need :
- metal grid
- black spray paint
- 2 nylstop links

The grid and its model : the rectangle part is 20 cm * 7.5 cm, the long side parts are 1.5 cm high and the corners are 45° cut, on a 1.5 cm basis :

Let's try it :

The grid black painted, its model and the 2 nylstop links which will hold it in place :

This is it !!!

If the black paint resists to gravels projection, I will keep it. Otherwise, I'll buy an Evotech protection, but it's about 10 times the price of mine.

This is mine - no need the links. If I can do powder coating for it, I think it will look as nice as Evotech one.

One question: Would it affect the "cooler" function of the unit? I'm afraid that it may prevent the heat coming out...

The heat comes out at the rear part of the cooler, pushed by the fresh air coming from the front when the bike moves. So what may reduce the cooling effect is the fact that your grid as got a smaller opened surface. That's why I have chosen to make mine in a very opened material.

I agree with you about your choice of material.
I searched for aluminum gird, when I found this one, very open.

Hello

A less open material would have better allowed a self-maintaining system, but I preferred to hold it with Colson links and have a widely open material that doesn't interact with the cooling capability
I'd like to see if it fits on the cooler with this fixing design.
