Just picked up my UE Monday and I have already put 100 miles on it. After work I just cruise around, otherwise I'd probably have even more. One issue I have noticed at a stoplight is the clutch has to be almost all the way out before the gear starts engaging. This has led to some awkward starts. One time I even looked down to make sure I wasn't in nuetral!

Can anyone help me adjust the clutch to engage closer to the grip? I've heard this is relatively simple, but I grew up on dirt bikes and never had the need to adjust it.

Thanks!

If you want to change the engagement point (but it really is where it should be right now) then you have to do the following:

There are 2 area of adjustment, and they work together (somewhat). What I mean is that adjusting one area will have a subtle effect on adjustments in the 2nd.

The first is at the lever, there is a knurled collar where the cable attached to the perch. This is primarily used to taking up slack in the cable itself, but needs to be loosened before making adjustments at the second location.

The 2nd adjustment location attached to the right side horizontal frame tube, right below the tank. The tank does not need to be removed to access this. This adjustment location has a more dramatic effect on the engagement position.

First, loosen the cable at the 1st position, then make an adjustment at the 2nd - after doing so take up the slack in the cable bu readjusting at the 1st location.

You will probably have to do this "dance" several time - back and forth - before you are happy with the results.

Once this is achieved, simply lock everything down and you are good to go.

I'm having a similar problem! The clutch engages almost all the way out. the adjustment lever on the clutch is all the way in, meaning there is no way to adjust it any further for lower release engagement. I took it to the dealer this morning and they say my clutch might be wearing out!!!! the bike is only around 1500 km so either I'm very bad with the clutch (which I don't think so, I may be new to riding motorcycles but I've driven almost all my life stick shifts) or there is something wrong with the bike! And they say since its the clutch it not covered under warranty. By the way the don't have a spare clutch in stock. I mean WTF.... They say its fixed for now but the clutch might be going out...

I am really pissed and to be honest I don't know what to do.

I thought I had the same problem. Turns out, that my clutch is (in my opinion) worn.. (only 3K km)
English is not my first language but I will try to explain my problem J

When I accelerate hard in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear and open the throttle afters hifting up (clutch released) Just for a short moment I can hear the engine rev a bit higher for a split second and then suddenly it revs a little less with the same throttle position, it feels like if the clutch engaged fully and everything is normal again. You do not notice this, until you really open the throttle.

To be honest, I did not notice this first, my friend did. I took my scrambler to show him my new bike and test ride it and tell me what he thinks about it. He loved everything about the scrambler except the clutch..

So I went to the dealer, the technician said that the clutch is adjusted properly so no problem there.. He went for a ride and he did not feel anything wrong with how the clutch engages. So I talked to the dealer on the phone today, explained again, how and when it happens and he promised to go test ride it himself, no reply so far..

same thing happens to me!! It feels as if you are winding up a pull back toy car and after a while it is released and the bike starts going faster.

Until yesterday I thought that was something normal but now I think just like you! I guess the clutch is slipping.

I explained it to the dealer today but after his ride he didn't say anything.

I'm really frustrated..

Does any body with more experience with bikes have any idea about this? Any advice?

My clutch lever started getting tight (no free play) at 800 Km or so. Adjusted the lever as far as it would go. Neutral became difficult to select. Bike woudl creep forward with clutch lever pulled all the way in. Clutch starting slipping in high gears when accelerting. Lucky it was only 200 Km before the frist service. When I took it in to the dealer they said that my clutch was worn. They adjusted the clutch lever and said a warranty claim wuold be submitted.

I rode the bike for another three weeks and 500 Km more. Could not drive on the highway. Too much slipping. Had to ride like a 90 year old grandmother.

After 3 weeks, dealer called and said new clutch was in. They changed it under warranty and the bike is like new. Have ridden it over 1000 Km on the new clutch and it is perfect. No changes in the clutch lever free play, neutral is easy to find. No slippage.

If the dealer says no warranty, you need another dealer. A clucth should last a lot longer than 1000 Km.

Unfortunately my dealer is the distributor in Turkey, so if something like that happens I might have to go international :)

On my Icon I noticed the clutch engagement creeping further out toward the grip as the freeplay at the lever increased. I had a few millimeters of freeplay and the clutch lever felt like it was out when the clutch engaged. The proper freeplay at the lever is only about one millimeter. Little more than enough to ensure the cable doesnt have any taughtness. When I set the freeplay properly the clutch engagement came toward the grip a noticeable distant.
