There is a lot of rubbing going on and the rubber sleeve on the clutch cable is almost chewed through. This looks to be a long term issue that likely affect most if not all bikes

For now a 2mm thick self adhesive rubber piece is in the contact area though you can see other rub points as you turn from lock to lock

It can not move as there is a bolt recess in the way which I think may hold the head lamp on, does anyone else have the cable running this way?

You might want to consider using this:

Kuryakyn Round-It Wire Tidy/Cable Wrap Black
this amazing wire loom adds a measure of protection, and good looks to your wiring
Although tubular in shape, it is actually a flat piece of material with a memory
A wire can be added, or joined to an existing harness with no cutting or fishing necessary
One side of the wrap has a slit so you can wrap around without removing the cables, but is covered by an overlap when in situ

Yeah, those melty marks are from the factory. I saw them and freaked out for half a second last week.

But I think he is referring to the lengthwise scratching on the cable where it rubs the wire guide and the frame?

Aren't those marks just manufacturing stamps? Or am I looking at the wrong thing?

Mine had these stamps from new:

You must be correct as at full lock the upper mark rubs nothing and the marks look to perfect to be anything else. Thanks you put my mind at rest :)

Apologies for the confusion. What you point out there is barely a rub mark ...the flash makes it look worse than it is ...
No, I really like the thorough way you are checking your bike. I have noted so far the scratching of the brake line below the headlight somebody brought to attention here and my own find of a loosening bolt at the sidestand hinge I posted some weeks ago. Keep this things coming please, better safe than sorry. We´ve got only two wheels/brakes to hang our life on :) Would like to have a sticky thread for this kind of warnings. And a false alarm is a good one. Can check and sort it out...
