Who has a “Scottoiler” on the Scrambler?

My experiences with motorcycle chains lubrications.
All kinds of sprays I’ve used, including dry lube, on my bikes. At the end, all are dirty and not really satisfying. Two years ago I had to replace the chain kit on my Multi. With the new chain I installed a Scottoiler - the standard V.
25.000km later, normally the end of a chain kit, the chain drive is still in brilliant shape. I assume it will last for 20.000km more. The maintenance came to nearly nothing. Oil consumption is about one filling for min. 3000km. The mechanical sound of the chain drive is perfect. Not comparable to a sprayed chain after a long trip. Even in the rain.
For my Classic I’ve ordered already the Scottoiler Mini.
Who has already mounted such an oiler on the scrambler? Since I am still waiting for the Classic, I’ve not really a plan where to place the unit? Some help, experiences would be fine.

Mine is here

Just pull the plunger every couple of hundred kilometers. Not too conspicuous I think. At first the tube ran from the reservoir on the inside of the frame which was even less visible but I had some leaks so they rerouted the tube like this.

Do scott oilers make a mess? I've got 17k miles on my o-ring DID chain that I'm running on one of my current bikes and it hasn't stretched or worn the sprockets in any way over the past several years. I just put it on its center stand and clean the chain with WD-40 and then use Motul street wax spray on it about once every 500 - 1000 miles. That bike has 50hp though, so it might be too weak to destroy chains as badly.

I like the way Jerry has his albeit as he says awkward to top up but hidden from general view. Is there anyway of fitting under the seat in that box for the PHONE to rattle around in. I do notice this bikes chain gets more abuse than my Monster did as it gets used more often in any weather. Mine needs a clean before weekend. I need to investigate scottoiler or an alternative very soon.
I do wonder why Asador mechanics couldn't fix the leak and why its on the wrong side of the bike now. :( Still it works and that matters more than anything.

I am using Aero D100 oil from my other hobby. At SAE50 the airplane engine oil is the thickest I know like honey, it stays on the chain for a long time (gear fluid has different numbering, 90 is not more viscous than 20 motor oil). Have a little squirt bottle under the seat and apply it just to the lower exposed chain train every other day or so. No need to turn the wheel, sprocket will spread it nicely over the entire chain without spray on tire. Put more after a wash or after rain driving. Just keep the chain looking wet and shiny.

Interesting ... how long you been using the oil and have you been getting good chain wear?

Used aero D100 on my Yamaha SR500 and on a 125cc Dax for many years, chains have been lasting for ever. However, there is of course less torque to deal with and I did not run a double blind randomized study :)
The big advantage of that thick oil is the enhanced application interval, sparing the installation of an oiler with similar results IMHO. Basically you can just add a "stripe" at every fuel stop. Chain remains always wet.
Since my airplane engine takes 12 l of the stuff I do not really notice the 50 cc a year left on the chains...

My experience with wet chain lube is the amount of crap the chain has attached to it and chains do pick up a lot of debris. I would have thought a thicker oil picks up lots of debris too but having never used the stuff it is just me speculating

What make model did you get? They haven't got Scrambler up there yet. Did you use the standard Ducati one?

Cheers

I do not care about dirt on the outside of the chain as long as its wet with oil. Critical points for lubrication are underneath the rolls and at the O-rings. The crap that clings outside doesn't matter too much in my opinion. Using the thick oil you see a black coating on the flanks which is metal particles suspended in the oil. I guess oiling frequently is enough washing...

From Scott's

Had a reply from Mark @ Scott's which I was impressed to get. They should have the detail up shortly with a couple of options.

Couldn't get the photo's on the forum because they are too big so stuck them on my Google site https://sites.google.com/site/ducatiscambler/
Hope this helps. He has given two options...

His Reply -----
Just installed a kit top the Scrambler at Ducati Glasgow.
Will have a guide soon. Meanwhile, here are a few pics...

MOTUL in a can has never done me wrong. Has the added cache of being french which can be re purposed as an impromptu flame chucker in order to ward off the fashionazi's come to condemn your shapeless kevlar jeans or to enquire about your totally neo-retro combination helmet/barstool...

Thanks for the information about the chain oilers.

Has anyone of you experience with the scottoiler e-system on the Scrambler? We've had the e-system on a Triumph Tiger 800 before and it was excellent! But I don't find any good place for the screen on the Scrambler... I don't like the official recommendation on the handle bar.

If anyone has an idea for the installation of the scottoiler e-system I'm open for it.

Best regards from Stuttgart

Hello

I haven't got a Scottoiler, but a Tutoro Oiler. Same principle, but without any connection to the bike injection system, so the installation is much easier. I had a Scottoiler on my 4 previous bikes, so I worried a little bit about a system which only uses the bike movements to push the oil to the chain, but I must recognize it works very well.
