I think that's really the only place they WOULD help this bike. Like a freak rock kicking up at high speed or a piece of road debris. They're totally not made what people think they're made for: bashing into rocks and rocking the bike over top of logs like an enduro. I bought the pan because my dealer had it present at the time I got my bike. Honestly a metal clamp-on oil filter cover might be more sensible.

I ride basically 100% on paved roads (mostly back roads, but good quality). Should I be buying guards for all the engine components?

The oil filter can be smashed easily enough. See: http://www.ducatiscramblerforum.com...discussion/10977-guess-who-colossal-dumb.html

What about the oil cooler and rectifier? Are stones kicking up that high?

The EvoTech parts all look nice, but necessary? Scrambler Icon Aftermarket Parts - Evotech Performance
I agree with silverluxe. check out some of the aftermarket UK stuff. you can buy pieces instead of a whole pan! nice looking stuff too, Evotech! good luck...im riding freebird >:D

Get it all. It looks cool, and with a nice plaid shirt -- you rock. ;)

More seriously, the Evotech stuff DOES look good and why not defend against a low-probability event. If it degraded the look of the bike, no way.

Its depends in where you ride and in what conditions, I have the evotech guards fitted and between the amount of rain we get in Ireland and the rather short front mudguard the engine guard is more of crap catcher than crash protection. The evotech pieces look good and the could save your bacon some day and the help keep general road rubbish at bay.
