Just figured I'd make my first post. I signed up so I could do some snooping and reading up on the Scramblers, but I haven't committed to buying anything yet.

I have myself signed up for a test ride in a week. The dealer doesn't have a demo model but they say Ducati comes around with a few demo models and they have a Scrambler to try out, but they don't know which specific Scrambler yet.

I'm still undecided though, and I'm actually caught between an Urban Enduro or a KTM 690 Enduro. I know, they seem a little bit off from each other to be competitors.

I currently have a Harley Softail Deluxe, but I don't ride nearly as much as I could/should/would like to and I'm thinking of getting something a little smaller and lighter and a little more "off-road" capable too.

BTW, I like what Hedonism did with his Urban Enduro! Looks very sharp!

Welcome aboard and good luck with your decision.

Now, while I love my Scrambler, and it is the perfect bike for me right now, it may not be the best choice if you want more off road capability.

If you want a bike that is great on the street and wonderful in the paved curvy roads and can still ride fire roads and dirt roads with confidence, this is a perfect fit.


In the end, ride everything you are considering and go with what feels the best.

If you're focus is off-road, the KTM is a better choice.

But be prepared to spend $5K more than the Ducati - a bit pricey for a single, IMO.

There is a HUGE difference between the KTM 690 Enduro and a Scrambler. One is a full on dirt bike you can ride on the street, and the other is a full on street bike you can take off pavement if you're not doing anything difficult in the slightest. You need to be quite tall to be comfortable on the KTM as the seat height is probably a good 6" higher (narrower but KTMs are very tall still). I don't think the KTM would be very good for much beyond occasional paved roads and the Ducati for the occasional dirt road, so I'd figure out which category you prefer and go that way.

The ideal solution would be to buy one of each bike, but I haven't won the lottery yet.....

I'm not exactly short either, so the height of the KTM won't bother me, but it's highway ability might bother me.

I understand that they are both very different bikes, but my type of riding would of course be adjusted to what the bike can handle. If I were to get the KTM, I likely would get into more off-road stuff and if I were to get a Ducati, I would probably limit it's offroad time a little bit.

Currently I just don't use my bike enough to justify even having it, let alone paying the insurance. Hence why a smaller, more off-road capable bike would make more sense. And it doesn't take much to be more off-road capable than a Harley FLSTN.

I don't know what it is about the Scramblers, but I find they have a natural good look to them. Well proportioned and easy on the eyes!

My test drive next week might tell me a lot. My history with test drives is that I buy it once I've tried it......
