Hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster.

I've recently put a new set of lsl street bars onto my scrambler..The thing is, the metal bit that comes out of the front break reservoir is now pushed right up against my speedo. It'll be ok, but what I'm wondering is if I undo that little nut on the end can I spin it down and under the speedo without leaking brake fluid all over my bike?

If you look at the picture with the yellow arrow on and have a closer look at your bike you'll see what I mean. Anyone able to offer any advice?

Yes, if you undo that nut (It's actually called a banjo bolt) then brake fluid will come out. And brake fluid is really corrosive on paint, if you ever spill any wash it off with water immediately.

Rerouting the brake line isn't the easiest thing in the world. It needs to go down near the steering head stem, so it doesn't loosen or tighten as you twist the bars. That's what that big loop helps with, it will change shape very slightly as you move the bars.

To change this you will need to have a shorter line fabricated then figure out how and where to bend and route it.

I had a similar thought, but it all got too hard.

With the bars you've chosen you have quite a bit of extra cable to your loop. If you run them like I did, I foresee your brake cable running below your upper triple tree since you have very low rise handlebars. Just make sure that the cable doesn't rub anywhere as it looks like it will come in contact with the upper plastic tank cover. The brake line can have some crazy bends in it as long as you don't bend it too the point that you are collapsing it and still function so you can help manage it with a zip tie or two to the front end (the parts that move when you turn the bars). The throttle on the other hand needs smooth flowing bends so you don't bind up the inner cable.

Yes you can if you crack the banjo bolt only just enough to rotate the fitting, use plenty of rags for protection and clean all residual fluid off with methylated spirits. And of course do not apply the brake with the banjo bolt loosened.

That's exactly what I did when swapping out the bars on my wife's bike. I simply rotated the fitting down under the speedo. I also rotated the throttle housing 180 degrees so that the cable and brake hose still follow the same line. As previously mentioned, check the bars lock to lock after fitting, make sure you re-tighten the brake hose, and also check lock to lock with the engine running to ensure that the throttle cable still has enough free play and isn't affecting engine revs as it moves.

Hi all,
just to add my own experience: Parker and Joe Bar are correct. No fluid came out when I opened the nut just enough to rotate the fitting.
To solve the problem with the speedo, I turned the fitting more upwards, not down under the speedo. Advantage (in my eyes), the original loop of brake- and throttle line is kept. This is a "Scrambler design feature", I think, which I like.
