Could I ask opinions (particularly of owners of other Ducatis) on whether 20/50 mineral oil would be O.K. to use in my Scrambler. The reason I ask, is I have a large drum of it in my garage which I used on my previous bike - an air cooled V twin - a Yamaha MT-01. Thanks in advance.

You should be looking for oils with JASO MA2 rating due to the fact this bike has a wet clutch, oxygen sensors, and a catalytic convertor. Motul 5100 and Motul 7100 come to mind as the two that I'll be deciding on when I get my bike.

Also, from what I can tell about the Monster 796 that has the wet clutch Ducati recommends 10w40 semi-synthetic oil instead of the 10w50 synthetic oil to be used with the same engine that has a dry clutch.

So I'd probably say no, it's not wise to run 20w50 in an engine like this. Save it for your vintage Harley and your old timey pickup truck :)

I've never owned one of these bikes, so I can't say that with confidence, but I doubt you want to plug up your exhaust or affect the fuel injection if you gunk up the oxygen sensors. And then there's the theoretical issue with bearing clearances in modern machinery like this that may require a thinner oil for a reason.

I got my hands on a preliminary service manual for the Scrambler and this is what it has in there. I highlighted the parts that have the specifications they suggest. It looks like 15-w50 is the default weight they recommend.
