I thought I'd like them because they're skinny, but I think they're almost too skinny if it makes any sense. My favorite grips are the OEM Magura grips on my BMW. The grab on them is great and they're the right amount of skinny.
I have to agree; in over 25 years of riding bikes these are the first grips that I would ever call uncomfortable. The only reason I haven’t changed them yet is because I am waiting on the heated grips. That and the fact that my wife has noticed a substantial increase in parcels arriving at our home since I ordered the bike .
I've only had my bike a few days and I'm thinking you might be right, I do a lot of motocross and I think they are almost identical to the ones I use which to be honest shouldn't be on a road bike as its not the same style of riding.
I have the Urban Enduro and does anyone know if they are the same across all the models?
I also don't like the grips, and have small hands which are also arthritic! I was thinking about the grip puppies but read that they aren't suitable for people with small hands .
Why don't the Biltwell grips work? I quite liked the look of them ..
I like the BMW Magura grips because they grab well so you don't have to have such a tight grip (strength) to maintain a solid grip on the throttle. I'm already used to the Scrambler grips. I wear moto cross gloves if it's warm out, so it's a winning combo for me, but the Magura grips from vintage 70s BMWs are more grabby.
I didn't use to like the grips that much either to begin with but got used to them, and now when i started to use my summer gloves, they just feel awesome.
They may be more heavy-duty looking than you like, but I've yet to find anything more comfortable than the Oury Road grips; super soft and grabby, fill my hand just right so I never feel like I'm making an effort. You can usually find them for a bit under $10 if you shop around.
For those of you that have changed grips, once you remove the bolt, how do you get the bar ends of? Mine seem to be on very tightly. Can I just use a pair of pliers to pull them of or is there some other technique?
They have a conical wedge the screw engages so what seemed to work was to loosen the bolt until almost out then give it a few taps to push the conical plug in. Then I took a piece of wood on the edge of the plug and tapped it with a hammer and it came out easily. I wouldn't use a screwdriver as it will mar things
I'm a big fan of the slightly oversize gel grips. They help subdue the vibes at speed and the larger diameter helps with the sensitive throttle on the scrambler..
Guys, please help me quickly. I'd like to replace my grips too. People say I need 7/8" but some are sold with a 7/8" clutch grip and a wider throttle grip.
Is that what I need i.e. do we keep the original 1" throttle tube and just slide the grip over it?
You need 7/8" The throttle grip will be slightly oversized so that it will slip over the factory throttle tube. It'll all make sense once you have the factory grips off and the new grips in hand.
Just installed the Ducati factory Flat Track grips, and the throttle is now a lot smoother than with the stock grips, almost "too light", but maybe this is because the grip is smooth and relatively skinny.
